I have to say that it’s a shame that not many people turned up for this superb film during last night’s screening, sadly there were only four of us, but hey that’s fewer people to munch on noisy popcorn or slurp loudly with drinks. I have to say that couple that was in the screen with us last night was lovely to chat with before and after the film and they certainly seemed like fellow classic film fans.

The new Casablanca 4K Ultra High-Definition image was restored and remastered from a 2022 4K 16bit film scan of the best-surviving nitrate film elements.The 4K-scanned digital images went through an extensive digital restoration process to clean and repair the picture for an unprecedented and pristine ultra-high-resolution presentation. The restored images were then graded in High Dynamic Range for today’s premium 4K display experience, providing the highest fidelity in image contrast and detail retention. This work was meticulously handled by Warner Bros. Motion Picture Imaging. The original theatrical mono audio has also been newly restored as well, providing a richer and broader frequency response than previously possible. that Disc 2 of that edition, a separate Blu-ray with three long-form documentaries including the exhaustive five-hour You Must Remember This: For Sheri Eisenberg, Senior Colorist at Warner Bros. Screenwriters Julius Epstein and Howard Koch, original playwright Murray Burnett, historians Rudy Behlmer and Ronald Haver, composer Henry Mancini, and Bergman's daughter Pia Lindstrom, among others, offer wonderful insights and anecdotes. Still, it's important to note that when a restoration is completed in 4K, the goal is not to make it look like the film was shot with a modern digital camera; rather, the objective is to offer viewers the best possible representation of the film as it was intended upon its original release.
In celebration of the 80th anniversary of Casablanca, Warner Bros. has released the film on 4K UHD. The best Hollywood movie of all time” according to film critic Leonard Maltin won three Academy Awards (Best Picture, Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay) and will soon be available in 4K - although it does seem that the film will only be presented in HDR. Though they’re included here, they are shown without sound (this was 45 years “pre-DVD” here, so they weren’t really scoring them with sound) but don’t add any new necessary information to the movie; it doesn’t need it!
