There are some concerns about the fact that soya contains phytoestrogens. These are found naturally in some plants. Some lactose free milks have more protein than others. Lactose free cow’s milk and soya milk contain the most protein; oat and nut milks contain the least protein.
Unless a midwife, health visitor or GP suggests otherwise, first infant formula is the only formula your baby needs. Your baby can stay on it when you start to introduce your baby's first solid foods at around 6 months and they can drink it throughout their first year. Comfort formula is made from partly broken down (partially hydrolysed) proteins. It's not suitable for babies with cows' milk allergy. Follow-on formula Partially hydrolysed formula (comfort formula) is not suitable for babies who have cows' milk allergy. Lactose-free formula It is the law that if a product contains milk products they will be listed in bold, underlined, or highlighted.Dairy products provide some key nutrients. You need to make sure you get enough of these. Remember that most cheese is low in lactose so it may be okay for you. Vitamin B12 Lactose cannot be broken down or absorbed without lactase. It will pass into the colon instead. In the colon it will be fermented which makes gas. Lactose also pulls water into the bowel, which is why it can also cause loose stools. And of course, in case you are wondering, it is completely lactose and gluten-free. As for taste, while it is slightly different from regular milk powder, once you get used to it, many people actually prefer almond milk powder to the regular kind. It is somewhat similar to cow’s milk, but slightly nutty, and slightly sweeter too. Lactose is in milk, including breastmilk, cow’s milk, sheep’s milk and goat’s milk.
