Some PBS medications are restricted and require prior approval from Medicare before a doctor is able to prescribe them on the PBS. This prior approval to prescribe grants the doctor the Authority to prescribe the desired medicine and have it funded under the PBS. Following treatment, prophylaxis with 2% acetic acid drops (e.g. Aqua-ear) should be instilled after swimming and showering. These drops can also be used to prevent recurrences.Contraindicated in perforated tympanic membrane.

Persisting infection which is thought to be fungal can be treated with Locacorten-Viaform ear drops, where as more severe cases may require a topical antifungal such as 1% clotrimazole. Hypersensitivity to the active substances (see Section 2 Qualitative and Quantitative Composition) or to any of the excipients listed in List of Excipients. However there are several types of dog ear cleaner available and you may find your dog has a preference in terms of what is most comfortable, and you may also find that certain types provide a much faster or effective clean than others. Are there any side effects? Pregnancy and breastfeeding Otex ear drops contain the active ingredient urea hydrogen peroxide, which helps to soften ear wax. Urea hydrogen peroxide works to soften ear wax by releasing oxygen which breaks up hardened wax, it also has some antiseptic properties. The choice you make should usually come down to the current state of your dog’s ear hygiene and why your particular pup desperately needs them washed: Infections Pheochromocytoma crisis, which can be fatal, has been reported after administration of corticosteroids. Corticosteroids should only be administered to patients with suspected or identified pheochromocytoma after an appropriate risk/benefit evaluation.

4.8 Adverse Effects (Undesirable Effects)

If you’re merely washing your puppy’s ears as a preventative measure, ear wipes may be sufficient enough to remove wax and keep up good ear hygiene.
