The app includes a two-minute timer for each of the four themed zones of The Crystal Maze - Aztec, Industrial, Futuristic, and Medieval. The team has one opportunity to earn the Mega Crystal, and the team captain decides before each game whether they want that game to be played for the Mega Crystal. You might recognise this from the revival where host Richard Ayoade wielded one as he led contestants around the maze. It feels like building in a pre-recorded Maze Master could have allowed the game to be a lot more immersive. Success is rewarded in the shape of precious time crystals and the more crystals you win, the more time you’ll get to spend scrambling for gold tokens in the game’s furious finale. Those cryptic conundrums are present and correct, complete with heavy-handed hints, while other games have you completing jigsaws, matching up dominoes, solving word puzzles and so on.
