They’re by no means its strong point, but people aren’t buying this for its speakers. Still, they’re fine, thin-sounding as expected, and not very good for editing video/sound. But in a pinch for YouTube and Podcasts, perfectly fine. The menus are easy to navigate, but also offer a lot of depth. Owners can select between preset color profiles and specifically change color temperature, hue, saturation, gain, and offset. These options allow for a lot of customization. That’s important, because the Dell U3818DW is marketed as a screen for people who need the highest color accuracy possible. Just because a monitor is stylish, that doesn’t make it great. The ports and buttons matter, too, and in this area, the Dell UltraSharp 38 Curved USB-C Hub Monitor doesn’t disappoint. This monitor is loaded with all kinds of ports that I found quite useful, and you might, too. When you notice screen abnormalities like distortion, clarity, horizontal or vertical lines, color fade, it is always a good practice to isolate the monitor by running the Built-In Diagnostics. The length of the warranty is not all that notable, as many monitors are warrantied for as long. However, the LG 38UC99-W only offers a single year of coverage. That’s unfortunate, it helps tilt the comparison in Dell’s favor. Our Take x 1600 provides a lot of room for your workflow and it’s also great for immersive gaming if it weren’t for the limited refresh rate. The screen doesn’t look as sharp as a 4K display, but it also has a higher pixel count and you won’t have to squint while reading small-font text. Games, on the other hand, will need a powerful GPU but you only have 60Hz to fill so you won’t need the top-end models. The Dell U3821DW doesn’t support FreeSync, so naturally, G-Sync compatibility is also out of the window. FreeSync is quite common on most monitors, but it’s common practice for Dell not to include it on their productivity or prosumer monitors. Input lag sits at 15ms which is higher than most monitors, but delays are still mostly unnoticeable even while gaming. Thoughts on the Dell U3821DW Caution: Dell U3821DW setup must comply to the recommended panel orientation and working angle only. Setting up the monitor in an orientation that is not recommended may damage the monitor and/or cause a safety hazard.

Ultrathin bezel minimizes the bezel gap in multimonitor usage, enabling easier setup with an elegant viewing experience. Additional monitor information like the model number, firmware version and Service Tag can be accessed from the monitor's OSD (On-Screen Display). The Dell U3821DW is capable of pumping out superb vibrancy thanks to its more than 100% sRGB, 88% Adobe RGB, and 97% DCI-P3 coverages. The problem is with the color accuracy with some colors reaching as much as DeltaE 4.8. The image looks fine for daily use, but those who delve into color-critical work should calibrate this monitor. As mentioned, the LG 38UC99-W was the first 38-inch model on the market. While Dell’s Ultrasharp finally offered an alternative, our display tests indicate the U3818DW is more of the same, at least in image quality. It even has the same resolution: 3,840 x 1,600 pixels — the highest of any ultrawide PC monitor.
