About this deal

A good paint is only as strong as the surface you put it on, so prep is key to durability. We recommend cleaning all surfaces with our TSP Alternative or another degreaser. For surfaces with a bit of a sheen, we recommend a scuff sand to add some “tooth” for the paint to adhere to. If the surface is extremely high gloss, very detailed, or can’t be sanded, you may need to use our Ultra Grip™ as an adhesion primer. Fusion is a 100% acrylic paint with no fillers! Our pigments are all derived from natural minerals, and our paint is 100% non-toxic with no lead, and no phthalates. Plus - it’s got a built-in top coat that is UV, water, and stain resistant - meaning you don’t have to wax or seal it! Navy blue often gets mistaken for midnight blue, but actually, these two colors are several shades apart. Navy blue, while it is a dark shade of blue, is considerably lighter than midnight blue.

Midnight blue is a color named after the color of the dark sky around a full moon. Though some people confuse midnight blue with navy, midnight blue is actually much, much darker than navy blue. For wood surfaces that are prone to bleed through or to seal pine knots, we recommend a coat or two of Zinsser BIN Shellac-based primer. For more details, read our prep tutorial. Avoid painting in direct sunlight, only when the air and surface temperatures are between 10 oC and 32 oC and humidity is less than 85%. Do not apply if, in the following 48 hours, there is likelihood of rain, frost, fog, condensation or if the temperature is likely to drop lower than 10 oC. This means that certain times of the year are unsuitable for painting outside projects - as a general rule of thumb Summer is recommended. Most shades of blue have a calming and soothing effect as a result of being associated with the ocean and clear skies, which most people find relaxing. As a very dark shade of blue, midnight blue can be linked to deep ocean waters, and it does still retain a sense of calming that can be useful to help you unwind.

The deep warmth of mustard yellow provides a cozy feel in a midnight blue room. Opt for mustard cushions on a midnight blue sofa for a rich contrast or mustard yellow heavy suede curtains against a midnight blue painted wall. This shade of blue was aptly named after a dress that was designed in this color for Queen Charlotte of England in the early 1800s. Sapphire blue You can also invert this color scheme and opt for blush pink walls with midnight blue soft furnishings. This will work especially well in a bedroom or living room. Emerald green Midnight blue soft furnishings will make a dramatic addition to any color scheme without creating a bold or intense contrast to any other shades. Choose midnight blue cushion covers for definition against a pale sofa or a midnight blue comforter against white bedsheets for a fresh and relaxing feel. Exterior wooden surfaces in particular can retain moisture for up to 48 hours after rainfall or preparation. Ensure the items are thoroughly dry prior to painting.

Please note that coverage does depend on the colour you’re painting with, your starting surface, and your painting technique. Just about everything! We’ve seen Fusion on front doors, kitchen and bathroom cabinets, even shoes! We’re always testing the possibilities of Fusion, so if you find something new that works, let us know! Named after the gemstone of the same name, sapphire blue is a dark blue color that is considerably brighter than midnight blue. It is heavily pigmented and appears very similar to royal blue, though it is very slightly more muted. How to Use Midnight Blue in Home Decor Wall colorEmerald green is the color of the moment in interior design, providing a look that can be either luxurious or natural. As emerald green is quite a dark shade of green, you will also need to use a third paler color to help add definition to this color scheme. For ferrous metal, treat rust, remove any loose or flaking coatings and sand smooth - in these circumstances, we recommend 2 coats of Frenchic Finishing Coat as a base for the paint.

With Fusion, you never need to use a top coat, but there are times where you may want to. We do recommend a top coat for higher traffic surfaces like kitchen cabinets or dining tables. In this case, we recommend our Tough Coat™ for lighter colours and our Stain & Finishing Oil in Natural for darker colours. Extra topcoats may also be desired if you want to change the sheen of the paint. Midnight blue is a perfect color to combine with white for a classic color scheme. It makes the blue stand out without creating a stark contrast. Use white trim against midnight blue walls or midnight blue sheets in a white bedroom. Floor tiles in midnight blue will also be a good choice because they will be both stylish and practical since midnight blue will help to hide dirt and footprints. Soft furnishings Yes! Fusion is water and UV resistant, so it can last through rain and won’t fade in the sun. It’s been tried and tested - it will last through a Canadian winter! A 750ml tin will provide a single coat of up to 12.5m 2. For a durable finish, a minimum of 2 coats is required, so your 750ml tin should provide full coverage for just over 6m 2 on non-porous surfaces like laminate or metal. Limited Edition 500ml tins will provide a single coat of up to 8. 5m 2 .

The paint takes about 21 days to cure (for the water to completely evaporate) and get to its most durable state, so we suggest being a little bit gentle for the first few days. Surface preparation required in addition to the above – clean with Frenchic Sugar Soap, rinse and dry thoroughly. Hand-sand sufficiently to abrade the surface. Wipe off any dust, paint away! For a great demonstration, see our video. Use these two colors without any other shades, or add in a third color for added interest. As midnight blue is a cool color and tan is warm, the two work together to balance out the temperature and create comfortable energy. Mustard yellow To make a room with midnight blue walls feel more inviting, opt for tan leather or faux leather sofas. Tan is a warm shade that is considered a light brown with a hint of orange and, therefore, can be perceived as a neutral color.
