About this deal

The jog wheels have been upgraded, too. They now have 10% more touch surface area with an improved feel! This is great news, as they were a little too free-spinning on the previous model. Note the white icon around the lowest USB port, this is the dedicated port for charging your phone! The Screen The two banks of dedicated effects can be assigned to each channel one at a time, this does stop us layering effects from the two banks but you can use the sweep effects on the mixer to add some more flair if you wish. Each bank controls 14 individual effects, which have been lifted straight from the X18000 mixer. Built-in to Engine OS, Engine Lighting gives instant and easy touchscreen control over smart lighting from Philips Hue and Nanoleaf .

Take control of the atmosphere with the unparalleled integrated lighting control. The Prime 4+ allows you to easily set up and execute immersive lighting experiences using DMX, Philips Hue, and Nanoleaf. From customized light shows to dynamic effects, you can elevate the visual impact of your performances. Against its closest rival, Pioneer DJ’s quirky OPUS-QUAD, PRIME 4 was evenly matched, with each having some obvious feature advantages.

When the prime 4 was first released I wanted one. All in one mixer, Controller and computer. And the added ability to use it on Virtual DJ 2020 was also a added bonus. As a mobile DJ there will be times I need functions on virtual DJ that the prime doesn't have, so to be able to put it into controller mode was a mega bonus.

Users can now sync tempo with external hardware using Ableton Link over both wired and wireless networks. Once Ableton Link has been enabled, an orange link icon will be shown in the top right of the toolbar providing the number of linked devices, sync lead tempo, and phase meter showing the current beat position. When synced, the tempo will match the tempo of the longest playing device. The lead tempo can be adjusted from any device and all other linked devices will automatically follow. Organising music is perhaps one of the least appealing tasks for a DJ, with countless paid apps like Lexicon promising to speed the process along. However, with all this talk of power, there are downsides. There’s no video: Although it can control visuals via the Link port, you’ll need to add Resolume for visuals or SoundSwitch for lights (although they have made lighting improvements since launch), and it’s not the same thing as DJing with music MP4s. The Prime 4 does work with Serato DJ as a DJ controller, though, which does add another dimension to the unit (because you then have video available). The software improvements are impressive, delivering way beyond what any other DJ kit has via software updates.

Music Management

We felt the loop roll and other beat-tied functions were forgiving, ie they make you sound good when using them! We liked the way the saved loops work, which is a bit different to most DJ software.

Also boasting real-time time-stretching and key-matching functionality for in-depth mixing, the touch-capacitive jog wheels are ultra-responsive for the smoothest possible transitions. Use the expanded dynamic FX to create massive drops and transitions or use the onboard Wi-Fi/Bluetooth connectivity to incorporate requests/last-minute song changes into your set with ease. You can control the level and 2 band EQ of the zone direct from the unit. If playing an internal playlist isn’t for you you can also send channel 4’s external source to the Zone. We can also see this feature being useful in smaller venues, the zone could output to the seating area, bar area or even the toilets and hallways. It’s a brand new concept and something we would love to see on more hardware in the future! The Zone output is handled by balanced XLR outputs. The Prime 4+ is built to withstand the demands of professional use, featuring a rugged metal chassis and steel knob stems for ultimate reliability. Its 10.1-inch HD multi-touch display provides a clear and intuitive interface for effortless navigation. Plus, with its built-in 2.5-inch SATA drive bay, you can store your music directly on the controller. For customers in outlying areas of the country, the price of the Extended Warranty may be marginally higher, due to the potential for higher collection and redelivery transport costs. If you care about Virtual DJ, the integration is fantastic, with everything you need to know on the huge screen in real-time also. Serato is also perfect, but I have not used it quite as much. Has Denon DJ done enough to take the momentum away from the other big brands in the market? Will you be investing in the Prime 4? Let us know in the comments below!

Unlike the previous MCX8000 unit, the Prime 4 of course has a big central screen (that unit had two smaller ones). It’s a big improvement. The onboard sampler was brought about with Engine 3.0 and has 16 pad-triggered slots, which can now be routed to any channel, giving DJs more flexibility to sculpt their sound. Please note that this extended warranty is currently only available on products sold within the UK, EU or EEA, and is subject to the terms and conditions as detailed on the extended warranty certificate provided. As before, these can all be combined with the Sweep FX and are fully adjustable with several parameter controls for each, so can be fully dialled in to suit each DJ’s taste. This all-in-one design eliminates the need to carry a computer or laptop with you on the move. Equipped with 24-bit Denon DJ audio engine and multicore processor, the Prime 4 Plus is the ultimate DJ system for any skillset. Using Prime Music Management software you can import your digital music collection from iTunes, Serato DJ Pro, Traktor Pro and Rekordbox.
