The 2004 reprinting of Schotten-Totten added the ten "tactic cards" from Battle Line, a few of them being types of wild cards and others allowing you to affect the game in some way outside of the normal rules. This new re-themed version of Battle Line is a two-player strategy card game built around the theme of Medieval warfare. This re-themed version of Battle Line features 60 beautiful new cards by illustrator Roland MacDonald, as well as 10 full-color tactics "wildcards" that give players extra flexibility and choices and help make each new battle wildly... It’s a nice concept, but after a few rounds it starts to feel a little flat. You’re repeating the same process again and again, and while perfecting your tactics and timing is a challenge, it feels like the game would benefit from a little more variety. Given the choice, I’d rather play the excellent motor racing game Automobiles, which uses some similar ideas but injects quite a bit more depth. Nagyon sokkal gazdagítják a játékot. It is a cheap, fast, fun and satisfying game of playing the odds and making some logical leaps of deduction. It’s small portable size means it’s the perfect game for all collections. These range from the weakest three card set (sum of the cards), to a colour run (three sequential cards of the same colour), with other poker like sets in between. Because there is only one of each card number/colour combo situations can arise where you know that you can’t possibly lose a stone, if you can make the case to your opponent then you win the stone too. At the same time, every play also cranks the tension handle, escalating the excitement. Sometimes you want to hold cards for as long as possible to avoid giving important information to your opponent. But doing so may force you into suboptimal plays elsewhere. It’s up to you to make the balance and the slow drip-feed of suspense into the game often becomes thrilling. Ha az alapszabállyal már jól megy a játék bevetheted a 10 darab taktikai kártyát, illetve a nagyon profiknak plusz szabály bevezetését ajánlja. A szabály elején vagy egy kis történet, a szomszédos felföldi faluk csatájáról hogy beleéld magad a játékba, de ezt a játék hevébe hamar elfeljted. A két játékos közzé fel kell 9 követ szimbolizáló lapkát helyezni, ez a faluhatár. Cél, hogy vagy 3 egymás melletti, vagy összesen 5 lapkát megszerezz. 6 színben 1-9-ig számozva jó pofa figurás kártyából 6-6 kártyát húzunk. A sequence of three numbers in the same colour is best, while a random pile of three cards is worst. Unlike Poker, players must lay their cards one at a time on their side of a line of nine 'stone' tokens. If the three cards on your side of the stone are a better combination than those on the opposing side, you win the stone. Win a majority of stones to claim victory. Each card comes with a number and a colour, and certain combinations are more powerful than others. As the game plays out, you’ll attempt to build stronger three-card sets than your opponent against each stone, and the whole process feels a bit like playing nine simultaneous rounds of poker. The clan cards at the core of Schotten-Totten are a treat because of how many options they give for play. The two different win conditions add a tension too because if someone goes all out for three stones, they’re also simultaneously making it easier for you to get the other six. The fact that you construct your hands piecemeal means that over time even the weakest cards will become useful. You could immerse yourself in this and have a tremendously fun time engaging in what is essentially a massively parallel tug-of-war. But while that model is satisfying, its options flex and expand before contracting tightly into rather boring inevitability. It takes the tactics cards, with their malleability of consequence, to really bring out the full flavour of the box. The clan cards imply rigidity. The tactics cards permit for a permanence that is situationally impermanent. This is better than allowing players to shift cards too freely because it finds the perfect pivot point between flexible play and meaningful weight to decisions. Even the rules surrounding tactics permits for players to find their own balance between use and overuse – nobody can choose to dominate tactical play without the complicity of their opponent. ‘You cannot play more than one card more than your opponent has played’, the rules say. The implication of that is significant for the rhythm and consensus of the experience. Playing with the additional complexity of tactics requires consent. To do this, you can only rely on cards that have already been played (cards you have in hand don't count). Ez egy fantasztikus, kétfős játék. Könnyen tanulható, gyorsan lejátszható.
