Monitor is wall-mounted so I can't comment on the stand but I did feel it and it is a solid beefy stand. The first thing you’ll want to note with high refresh rate monitors is the panel size and resolution. While for panel size, most would say that bigger is better, that’s not the case – you have to consider the resolution as well. A large monitor with a low resolution means you’ll be seeing pixels all the time, which is not an experience you want when you’re spending this much.
The massive stand for the Alienware AW2521H which keeps it steady is also flexible since it offers tilt, swivel, pivot, and height adjustments. You can swap it out in favor of a VESA mount, but we think it’s only necessary for specific instances. Keep in mind that you lose the aesthetic value of the monitor if you use it without that part, and we’re almost sure that a chunk of the price you pay went to it so you might as well use it. Some advanced image adjustment tools are missing, including gamma, 6-axis hue/saturation, and sharpness. This is sadly common for Alienware displays. Couple of questions: Calibrating the Alienware AW2521H can lower the dE average to around 0.50, but we don’t think it is worth it for gaming purposes. Using a colorimeter can correct the already very minor flaws, but it’s already good to go thanks to Aliernware’s fantastic factory calibration. Of course, you can tweak it if you already have the gadget, but spending more on it isn’t practical judging from these results. Both Super Fast and Extreme modes are redundant as they introduce too much inverse ghosting (pixel overshoot), whereas the Fast mode works perfectly fine across the entire refresh rate range. It prevents ghosting at no cost of overshoot.
The Alienware AW2521H is a fantastic choice for E-Sports fans since it’s incomparably fast except for one other monitor, the PG259QN. The monitor offers a color-accurate IPS panel out of the box that doesn’t show signs of blurring or ghosting which makes it fantastic at fast-paced games like CSGO or even Warzone. It is also one of the best-looking display products out there, making it a great centerpiece for your sophisticated battle station at home. Since most games only support 8-bit color (especially when it comes to eSports titles), it’s not really an issue. The Dell Alienware AW2521H is an amazing monitor for fast-paced gaming, but make sure to compare the prices of all similar models. Specifications Screen Size That said, when compared with a good 144Hz display, the AW2521H is a minor upgrade designed for a very specific type of player: seriously competitive esports enthusiasts. The 360Hz motion is a noticeable jump from 144Hz and 240Hz, however slight – I ran an ABX test myself – but for most people, it's not worth the few hundred extra dollars it currently costs. The Alienware AW2521H is excellent and all, but it is prohibitively expensive for many and it isn’t widely available yet at the time of this review. However, if it becomes available via the links above and below or if you spot it in the wild, we highly suggest you grab it right away. It’s one of the best competitive gaming monitors hands down, especially when performance is concerned. It can only be activated at a fixed 144Hz or 240Hz refresh rate, and not at the same time as NVIDIA G-SYNC. However, one thing to note here is that your game will need to be on a whole other level if you are to take advantage of that high refresh rate. When you’re playing competitive titles like Overwatch, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, or Valorant, a high refresh rate doesn’t make too much of a difference if you have slow reaction times.
The Alienware AW2521H covers 98% of sRGB and around 80% DCI-P3 which means it is not the most vibrant, but it still is great for gaming. However, it features fantastic accuracy right out of the box with a dE average of 1.12. The color temperature slightly exceeds the 6500K point, but it’s ready for gaming as soon as you plug it in. The common compromise with fast monitors used to be the panel, but that’s not the case. ASUS has opted for an IPS panel, which gets you truly great colors and viewing angles. If you’re the kind of person that enjoys good visuals and not just the highest refresh rate possible, this will make a massive difference. This is why 360Hz monitors are best for professional gamers because those few milliseconds make a massive difference. Sometimes, that’s exactly the difference between winning a tournament or going home. Casual gamers As the name may suggest, this is a 24.5” display, and it comes with a resolution of 1920×1080. This isn’t anything to write home about, because this size and resolution is pretty much standard when it comes to gaming. What is pretty great is the refresh rate – 360Hz means a new frame every 2.78 seconds, and if your reaction times are on point, you’ll love it. It gets you smooth gameplay and with a 1ms response time, the monitor will display the new frames pretty much instantly.
Smaller 24.5", 16:9 aspect ratio is great for my aging eyesight but still large enough to really enjoy the gaming experience. Though its focus is premium gaming, the AW2521H is a decent all-around monitor for everyday use. At 25 inches, its 1080p resolution provides enough pixel density to render small fonts and fine details well. An extra bit of sRGB gamut volume means bright and vibrant color for photo editing or video watching. The IPS screen provides decent viewing angles with little color shift or light reduction when viewed up to 45 degrees off center. Noteworthy gaming features include Dark Stabilizer (improves visibility in darker games by altering the gamma curvature) and Game Enhance Mode (consists of an on-screen timer and a frame rate counter). The Alienware AW2521H is a lightning-fast gaming monitor so you wouldn’t see any kind of blurring at its max refresh rate. Setting the overdrive to its Fast level is the best solution that lets you enjoy a screen without any noticeable persistence or blurring. The higher boost levels will add overshoot, so they are useless if you are after a pristine screen in fast-paced scenes. ULMB reduces brightness by around 12% if you start at 200 nits. Brightness can be raised to compensate. It only works up to 240 Hz, but it really makes a visible improvement to motion resolution. We thought there was no blur when watching BlurBusters test patterns at 360 Hz, but engaging ULMB at 240 Hz made it look even smoother. That means that if you don’t care about G-Sync, it’s actually better to do 240 Hz with ULMB than 360 Hz. It’s a shame ULMB can’t be used with G-Sync. But at 240 fps, tearing is barely noticeable, so some users might prefer to use ULMB.In fact, the monitor is factory-calibrated at Delta E ≤ 1.5, so you’ll get precise and consistent colors right out of the box with ~99% sRGB gamut coverage, while the wide 178° viewing angles ensure flawless image quality regardless of the angle you’re looking at the screen. TN, or Twisted Nematic, used to be the go-to for competitive gaming. Even though the colors and viewing angles were, quite frankly, a disaster, they’re the fastest panels out there, without motion blur or ghosting, or similar issues.
