If you’re after a microphone boom arm that gives you options, then Elgato have you covered. In fact, if the Wave was human, we’d say ‘Versatile’ would be its middle name. You can use the Wave to mount virtually any mic – the arm supports mics up to 1kg in weight, even ones with a top mounted XLR cable! The arm length and arm weight are similar, although the max reach on MBS7500 is longer. For one, the suspension boom arm includes a red LED “on-air” signal that is not seen in any other arm on this list. Whether or not this impacts your ability to write better music, is beside the point. It is a nice touch though, especially for podcasters and those who require such a feature.For as long as we can remember, the RODE PSA1 has been the benchmark, middle-of-the-road boom mic arm stand that all others are measured against. If the boom arm you’ve chosen doesn’t come with a built-in cable this is also a good time to insert that into the cable race. Designed for overhead use – trying to position the arm to hold your mic very low may cause stability issues. The arm body has two spring-loaded sections that are both squeak-free and flexible — making it a perfect choice for broadcast radio studios or voice-over studios.
