If you were attracted by the Barista Pro because you thought it was in any way easier than using a traditional espresso machine with a stand alone grinder, then I think you would probably be better off with the Barista Express Impress. a faulty solenoid valve is in no way down to a portafilter, simply a bad part or bad qualiry control. With almost double the grind settings of the Barista Express, it does a better job, but it's still not perfect – you'll still find that with some coffees the sweet spot with the grind settings to nail the extraction would be somewhere in between two settings. Earlier this year, our Quality Control Coordinator travelled to Nicaragua on a sourcing trip to meet our Direct Trade partners, the Mierisch Family. their machines, BUT, you can only make coffee with it how they say, or need to lie if an issue occurs, so your warranty remains valid.
