About this deal

Stranger Things has been perhaps the biggest and most popular Netflix original series in impact and scale since it’s premiere in 2016. The series has only grown more beloved with each season, especially the exciting summer season, Stranger Things season 3. There isn't a total count of episodes yet, but while appearing on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Matt Duffer revealed that season 5 will be regular-sized, not super-sized like season 4 (which had a total runtime of nearly 13 hours). “The only reason we don’t expect [it] to be as long is, this season, if you look at it, it’s almost a two-hour ramp up before our kids really get drawn into a supernatural mystery," Matt said. "You get to know them, you get to see them in their lives, they’re struggling with adapting to high school and so forth, Steve’s trying to find a date, all of that. None of that is obviously going to be occurring [in Season 5]." Season 2 ventures more into Alien and Predator territory, featuring versions of the Demogorgon that feel far more like xenomorphs than they do in Season 1. Ahead of the highly anticipated release of Stranger Things season 4, which will be released in two parts on May 27 and July 1, fans have been rewatching the series to catch up before the nearly three-year hiatus between seasons ends. Whatever happens, we can expect an almighty showdown between Stranger Things' major players. According to star Joe Quinn (per Digital Spy), who plays Eddie Munson, we should prepare ourselves for a "mad symphony of chaos and horror", with the craziness of Stranger Things season 4 "turned up to 11". Color us intrigued.

But apparently, Finn Wolfhard took one guess at what the spinoff series was about and got it right. "Finn Wolfhard, he wasn't spitballing, he just went, 'I think this would be a cool spin-off,'" Ross shared with Variety. "And we were like, 'How in the world…?'" It's been six months since the Battle of Starcourt, which brought terror and destruction to Hawkins. Struggling with the aftermath, our group of friends are separated for the first time – and navigating the complexities of high school hasn't made things any easier. In the same interview, Ross Duffer elaborated even more about Will's storyline in season 5: “Will really takes center stage again in 5. This emotional arc for him is what we feel is going to hopefully tie the whole series together. Will is used to being the young one, the introverted one, the one that’s being protected. So part of his journey, it’s not just sexuality — it’s Will coming into his own as a young man.” Murray and Joyce fly to Alaska, and El faces serious consequences. Robin and Nancy dig up dirt on Hawkins' demons. Dr. Owens delivers sobering news. It sounds like we may have to say goodbye to a key character or two as well. Speaking to The Wrap, Noah Schnapp (Will Byers) said: "One of us willdie. Or more. The cast is so big." That was in response to Millie Bobby Brown (Eleven) suggested that the main cast are all afraid of being killed off by the Duffer brothers. Additionally, Sadie Sink has hinted at how Max will step up to the plate in Stranger Things season 4's final episodes, telling Tudum: "Max is going to have to step up. She has some pretty brave moments in Volume 1. But Volume 2 — it’s the ultimate for her. She really has to put herself on the line." The Duffer Brothers have also revealed that they would like to hand the spinoff to someone new. “The idea, ultimately, is to pass the baton to someone else, someone who’s hopefully really talented and passionate,” Matt added while on Happy Sad Confused. “Even the idea of Ross and I, say, doing a pilot and leaving it, it just feels silly to me. You really need to be there from the beginning to end. I think we need to find a partner to help us with that.”

Soon, the group of kids become plunged into a world of missing children, government conspiracies, hell dimensions, and monsters. In another chat with Collider, Sink teased the possibility of Max opening up further to her friends over her PTSD and trauma. "I think you get to see more of it in Volume 2 as well, even more of her letting herself open up a bit more," Sink said. "I think after that [Vecna showdown] happens to Max, there’s just this newfound sense of resilience and bravery. She’s still in danger of course, but she chose to fight which was a really beautiful thing to see play out." As you can see from the trailer, all the main characters are set to return, including Jim Hopper, who was seemingly killed at the end of Season 3, when sacrificing his life to save his friends. Elaborating on the duo's plan for season 5, Ross Duffer told The Wrap: "We do have an outline for Season 5 and we pitched it to Netflix and they really responded well to it. We wrote it during the pandemic... [but] I haven’t even honestly looked at it because it’s just too overwhelming. We'll get into it."

Calling upon many movies that inspired it, Stranger Things feels like a melting pot of all your favorite '80s franchises, whether sci-fi or supernatural in nature. In Season 3, a god-like creature emerges from the Upside Down and possesses Will, who is still traumatized by his time in the dark dimension during Season 1.
