About this deal

It derives its predominant flavour from juniper berries and is a distilled alcoholic drink that originated as a medicinal liquor. I can’t say too much about our plans in 2023 as we are keeping it under wraps; let's just say that bold innovation remains at the heart of everything we do… Inspired by gin making principles, New London Light Original unites Salcombe Distillery’s expertise in developing exceptional taste, with our vision to enjoy life’s adventures with flavour and complete clarity. Hayman’s Gin London Light is a great option for anyone participating in “Damp January.” (Photo: Hayman’s Gin) In contrast to the fortified wine finishes of Release No.3, the latest editions all focus on full-term maturations that have been bottled at natural cask strength and without filtration.

For instance our work with the Marine Conservation Society protecting and regenerating seagrass in which we donate to meaningful projects from every bottle of New London Light we sell was inspired by seeing what some other brands had done in other industries ‘above ground’ on planting trees and protecting wildlife habitats. Health conscious drinkers can now enjoy a new zero-sugar range from bottled ready-to-drink (RTD) brand VK. In 2023, I think further innovation will be the key development with more advanced techniques for obtaining delicate flavours in non-alcoholic drinks being developed as well as taste/flavour combinations breaking new barriers in originality and moving away from traditional alcoholic drink flavours. In 2020 we initially produced ‘First Light’ within this range with flavours very much inspired by gin; juniper with a little ginger and habanero for cut through/warmth which had an excellent response from critics. New London Light Original (NLL) is a critically acclaimed, bold and refreshing non-alcoholic spirit with an outstanding spectrum of flavour. With its delicious full body, complex layers and thirst-quenching zest, NLL is making waves in the low and no alcohol category as it looks to set a new standard in taste. The finish is long and smooth with sweet orange and star anise, lengthened with floral coriander and lemongrass. If you're searching for the perfect accompaniment to your glass of tonic, look no further than the classic Salcombe gin. Their Start Point London dry is distilled using the one-shot method, using fresh spring water from Dartmoor National Park infused with fresh lemon, grapefruit peel, and Macedonian juniper. For something a little fruitier, why not try Salcombe's rosé gin? Inspired by the flavours and scents of Southern France, the Rosé Sainte Marie blends juniper and sweet red fruit with rose and lavender botanicals. Corks may be popping on bottles of New London Light this Dry January, but when it comes to distilling sans-booze, the team’s only just getting started. New London Light is the first bottling in what’s set to become a full non-alcoholic range, with two more booze-free variants planned for release before the end of the year. While the finer details remain well and truly under wraps, the focus for Davies and the wider Salcombe Distilling Co. team is centred on “innovation of taste and of process”.

Non-Alcoholic: There is no other product in the category like this. No alcohol, doesn’t mean no taste or enjoyment. Less is more. Records the default button state of the corresponding category & the status of CCPA. It works only in coordination with the primary cookie. The liquid sits in a handmade ceramic bottle featuring an oil painting by Dylan, titled Lighthouse in Maine (2017). Clarity: Clarity is everything. Clarity of flavour. Clarity of mind, clarity of spirit, clarity or purpose etc. Clarity even of the liquid itself – a lot of liquids are cloudy. Another month, another celebrity bringing out a spirits brand. In January it was the turn of Game of Thrones actor Jason Momoa, who has created a new sustainable vodka that will make its debut at wine and spirits show WSWA Access Live in Florida, US.

Gin has become hugely popular again over the last few years for its floral, fragrant taste and how light it is paired with all different types of tonics. The resulting 55%-ABV liquid offers a nose of toasted marshmallow, sandalwood, sugar plums, marzipan and creamed corn. The palate follows with hints of ‘winter campfire, mesquite barbecue, leather, piped tobacco, cedar and bone marrow’. London Dry Gin: The old guard brands mostly distill London Dry-style gin in the UK, although it does not actually have a geographical indicator. The main rules of this designation are that juniper must be the dominant flavor (as it is for all gin) and botanicals must flavor the gin during distillation, with no flavor or color added afterwards. Brands like Beefeater and Tanqueray are classics for a reason, but the world of gin has expanded enormously over the past 20 years as new distilleries tinker with the formula.

The Lazy Dodo XO Chronicles has been created to pay tribute to the ‘exceptional quality’ of the local sugar cane fields, the personality of the island, and the legacy of the dodo. The Chronicles series will roll out a single estate rum once a year, with each expression sharing new stories of of the dodo in remembrance of Mauritius’ national symbol and the island’s ‘true native’. Espanita Double Barrel Reposado Tequila The reposado Tequila is the first expression in the brand’s new Barrel Reserve Collection The 11-year-old Bourbon spent almost a year in seasoned Scotch casks from Islay to impart peat notes. I know some people are critical about non-alcoholic spirits and the cost, particularly considering there is no duty to pay, but what most people fail to recognise is the cost to produce high quality non-alcoholic spirits is actually higher than the cost to produce a gin and technically it is far more challenging without having alcohol there to carry all the flavours and aromas. If you were to add the cost of duty and VAT on top of duty to the price, you would end up at about the same price as for a bottle of gin, which kinda makes sense. Maison Ferrand released its limited edition Premier Cru 10 Générations Cognac to celebrate the Year of the Rabbit in January. As well as their flavours, the botanicals were chosen for their health benefits as they are filled with nutrients and bio active compounds that are great for the body and brain. In addition, New London Light is sugar free, allergen free, vegan friendly and low calorie. We do expect a peak of New London Light sales in January, but for us it is just as importantly about awareness and trial; many people will try non-alcoholic drinks for the first time in January and be surprised at just how good they are, therefore they are then likely to be continued consumers of non-alcs through the rest of the year also (possibly alongside alcoholic drinks too). Nose: Bursting with fresh lime zest and orange sherbet. A whiff of cardamom and violet, underpinned by a piney juniper note. Since then we have really focused on bold innovative flavours breaking away alcoholic substitutes and launch two further products; ‘Midnight Sun’ which has Nordic pine and berry flavours, slightly fruity but very complex, and ‘Aegean Sky’ whose core flavour is Mediterranean bitter citrus with notes of olive providing a very light saline note alongside this.

New Western Gin: This is really a catch-all term for newer gins that don’t fit into the previous categories. But the through line is that these gins, while still using juniper as a key ingredient, are flavored with a wide range of botanicals, and often use ones that are grown locally to showcase the flavors of where they are made. Overall, this has incredible promise, and I've rated this product based on both the current state (maybe 3/5) and future promise (easy 5/5)You may like your NLL (50ml) with 150ml premium light tonic water, orange slice and safe leaf which altogether is less than 30 calories.
