To make up for these losses, Suntory has released its Hibiki Harmony, an affordable and approachable blend using the same key malt and grain whiskies from the original Hibiki 17 and 21 year expressions. In 2001 the distillery closed, and news spread around the world of this mystical mountain distillery with a diminishing volume of exceptional whisky. Hibiki 21 has been named the World's Best Blended Whisky countless times at the World Whiskies Awards among many accolades, and for good reason! It features a beautifully intricate design upon the bottle and comes with the rather handsome presentation box too.

But, finally, Japanese whisky is going to be subject to rules that clearly define what is in the bottle, although at this point it’s really an agreement among producers rather than a legal requirement. A limited-edition bottle of Hibiki Japanese Harmony, released to celebrate House of Suntory's 100th anniversary. If you want to get your hands on an archetypical Japanese blended whisky then Suntory’s Hibiki is well worth investigating. On the other hand, Miyagikyo Aromatic Yeast is supposed to veer more in the direction of stone fruit on the palate.

Japan has been firmly established as a whisky producing nation for many decades and, with new distilleries cropping up all over the world, it is now seen as one of the old guard.Fuji also has a younger version of the single grain, made from three different grain whiskies distilled in bourbon, Canadian whisky, and scotch styles. The fresh, pure waters found here play a lead role in the range’s whiskies, with more than 100 years of expertise in blending and ageing spirits showcased in this blended whisky. The misty mountain air and high summer humidity combined to create unique conditions for whisky making, resulting in concentrated flavours and a high alcohol content. What that translates to is that this is a blend of 10-year-old Chichibu whisky along with American, Canadian, Irish, and Scotch whiskies. Iwai is perhaps the best known expression from Mars, a blended whisky that comes in various iterations.

Drinks will be chilled in 30-45 minutes and will be kept cold for several hours, especially if kept in the shade.A 500ml bottling of Suntory's excellent Hibiki 12 Year Old blended Japanese whisky, including malts from Yamazaki and Hakushu distilleries. Chief Blender Shinji Fukuyo and his team of blenders challenged themselves to rethink the Art of Blending, using the legendary Japanese Mizunara oak rather than the more traditional sherry cask. It is located in the Japanese Alps, and has been making whisky since 1949 (it was originally located on the island of Kyushu). When it comes to handing out ‘world’s best whisky’ awards, winner’s certificates regularly make their way to Japanese distillery walls. First released in Japan in 2018 at a time when Hibiki 17 Year Old was starting to be phased out, Hibiki Blender's Choice has been crafted from malt and grain whiskies spanning a range of ages from Suntory's Yamazaki, Hakushu and Chita distilleries. And its finest blended whisky is delicate and floral, with malt richness, barley sugar sweetness, citrus notes and orchard fruits, which dominate the palate.
