About this deal

Current use of calcium carbonate as a phosphate binder should be taken into account to prevent hypercalcaemia. Most over-the-counter antacid remedies work by neutralising the effects of stomach acid. Alginate preparations, such as Gaviscon work differently. Alginates provide a protective coating, designed to shield the lining of the stomach and oesophagus from the effects of stomach acid. These work best if taken just after eating a meal. Calcium carbonate neutralises gastric acid to provide fast relief for indigestion and heartburn. 5.2 Pharmacokinetic propertiesAbsorption: you are taking a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), eg aspirin, ibuprofen, diclofenac, indometacin, naproxen, azapropazone, piroxicam, ketoprofen. Heartburn differs slightly as it will present as a discomforting burning pain just below your breastbone. This pain can move into the chest and even into the throat. This pain is usually found to be worse after eating, or when bending over or lying down.

Before taking: Do not take if you are allergic to Remegel or to any of its ingredients, if you have severe kidney disease, have or had kidney stones, diabetes, or high levels of calcium or low levels of phosphate in your blood. There are steps you can take which will help reduce the risk of experiencing acid reflux and heartburn. These include: Symptoms have not improved despite having taken prescription medication such as Omeprazole or Ranitidine. If over-the-counter treatments are proving ineffective then you may try a proton-pump inhibitor (PPI). Proton-pump inhibitors are widely used as they are well tolerated by most patients and rarely produce side effects. PPIs work by reducing the amount of acid produced by the stomach. Examples of PPIs include: Antacids can reduce the absorption of many other medicines from the gut, which may make the other medicines less effective. If you're taking any other medicines, get advice from your pharmacist before taking Remegel. Remegel is a flavoured, chewable tablet that is an effective form of relief from Indigestion, Heartburn and Excess stomach acid. Other ingredients: Sucrose Solution, Sorbitol (E420), Titanium Dioxide (E171), Patent Blue V (E131), Quinoline Yellow (E104), Butyl Hydroxyanisole (E320), Amerfond Fondant Sugar, Glucose Syrup, Hydrolysed Milk Protein, Gelatin, Maize Starch, Glycerol (E422), Hydrogenated Vegetable Fat, Peppermint Oil, Levomenthol, Talc, Purified Water

It is important that your child takes this medicine regularly to prevent phosphate levels from building up in their blood, which could be dangerous. What is Calcium salts available as? Antacids– the first line treatment. These help neutralise stomach acid to relieve symptoms. The effects usually last for 2-3 hours. Examples of antacids include Rennie, Enos, Andrews Salts, and Tums. They contain ingredients like calcium carbonate, which neutralizes stomach acid, but too much calcium taken regularly can make acid reflux worse. Only be for occasional or infrequent use. Rolaids is a brand of antacid produced by McNeil Consumer Healthcare, a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson. Generally, patients should start with antacids and then make their way down the list if treatment does not control their symptoms.Antacids should preferably not be taken at the same time of day as any other medicines. In general, any interactions can be avoided if you don't take Remegel in the two hours before and after taking any other medicine. H2 Receptor Antagonists– available as tablets. They reduce the production of stomach acid and were initially introduced on prescription, before being available to buy from pharmacies. They start to work in as little as 30 minutes and their effects can last for up to 12 hours. They are well tolerated and side effects are rare. They can include diarrhoea, tiredness, rashes, and constipation. Examples include Ranitidine, Zantac, Gavilast, Cimetidine, and Pepcid AC.

The Chancellor Jeremy Hunt has today (Wednesday 22 November) announced a range of tax, benefits and savings measures. We round up the key announcements and what they mean for you. If you are only experiencing symptoms a few times a month that can be attributed to food and/or drink then it may not be necessary to see a doctor; self-diagnosis and treatment is likely to be appropriate. If your symptoms persist or get worse despite taking Remegel you should consult your doctor or pharmacist. Calcium carbonate is converted to calcium chloride by gastric acid (hydrochloric acid) in the stomach, with the resulting formation of carbondioxide and water. Some of the calcium is absorbed from the intestines but themajority is reconverted into insoluble calcium salts such as carbonate andstearate which is excreted in the faeces.

There are various reasons why someone may suffer from acid reflux or heartburn, the most common being a failure of the lower oesophageal sphincter. This sphincter comprises a ring of muscles that act as a valve, allowing food to enter the stomach whilst keeping acid from exiting. If the lower oesophageal sphincter doesn’t close fully, it can let acid leak up out of the stomach. Endoscopy: This is performed using an endoscope, which is a long flexible tube with a camera and light at one end. This tube is inserted into the throat and can help visually detect any damage to the oesophagus. Smoking can irritate the digestive system, making symptoms worse. Giving up smoking will help reduce the risk of developing acid reflux or heartburn. Thiazide diuretics reduce the urinary excretion of calcium and increase the serum calcium. 4.6 Fertility, pregnancy and lactation Only give this medicine to your child. Never give it to anyone else, even if their condition appears to be the same, as this could do harm.

You can give your child medicines that contain paracetamol, unless your doctor has told you not to. Hypersensitivity reactions: These may consist of (a) non-specific allergic reactions and anaphylaxis, (b) respiratory tract reactivity, including asthma, aggravated asthma, bronchospasm, and dyspnoea, or (c) various skin reactions including rash, pruritus, urticaria, purpura or angioedema. It is really strange that still over a year on and there is no Remegel and still no alternative on the UK market. Hepatic dysfunction: There is no specific information relating to the use of Remegel in hepatic impairment. Normal adult dosage is appropriate. If used regularly for long periods of time there may be an increase in the level of calcium in the blood (hypercalcaemia). If required, your doctor can carry out further testing of your symptoms using various different methods. These include: Thanks for all this! I have tried cutting out various things over the years and nothing really obvious from the list in your post seems to be the problem. I have learned that some things always seem to give it to me (like pasties and similar things) but the usual things that everyone suggests don't seem to do it. I have drank lots of coffee today to get me through a days work (well it is Monday!) and eaten plenty of chocolate.......and had no heartburn at all. Autumn Statement: Workers to pay less in national insurance – but rate cuts don't offset the freezing of personal tax thresholds Thanks to everyone who has kept posting and keeping me updated. Lots of interesting facts and helpful tips over this thread that may help people. Other serious symptoms such as severe pain, persistent diarrhoea/constipation or blood in the stools.
