About this deal

Rekordbox is Pioneer’s DJ software solution, but it’s slightly different to Serato, Traktor, VirtualDJ and the like, in that it is not intended to go into the DJ box with you – at least when it comes to standalone/all-in-one systems. Rather, it’s intended to be used to prepare your music beforehand, so that you can do all kinds of cool controller-type stuff in the DJ booth, without the laptop being there with you. more Sound Color FX and 6 more Beat FX in comparison to the XDJ-RX2 (features full DJM-900NXS2 mixer audio effects section) First, you’ll have access to standard hot cue assignments. But the secondary mode now opens up Gate cue. A feature that is long overdue for Pioneer controllers. This allows you to finger drum using preset cues. Great for creative mixing. Go for our Pro+ plan and get all the benefits of AlphaTheta Care Pro, plus accidental damage from liquids.

XDJ-RX3 - 2-channel performance all-in-one DJ system XDJ-RX3 - 2-channel performance all-in-one DJ system

Have the ability to learn at home, on this gear the rekordbox system/DJM CDJ club standard way of playing – so that when I go to DJ in a club I will not shit my pants 🙂 Sadly, unlike Traktor if you press the x2 it restarts the loop you are extending, so you first do 8 bars, then at the end point on the beat press the x2 and it will restart as 16, or as I have discovered, you can hit both at exactly the same time and if you get it just right it goes straight into the 16 bar loop! Space and Crush FX are the Sound Color effects that weren’t present on the XDJ-RX2 which as we’ve pointed out featured just 4 basic Sound Color effects and 8 Beat FX. 3-band waveforms view Beyond FX controls you’ll also have access to Booth Monitor volume. Cue/Master and Level controls for your headphones. Plus, access to AUX controls directly on the mixer section. As far as the standalone mixer functionality in this: I understand that this mixer will be ‘digital’ as far as the architecture goes? A lot of DJ’s first comment on seeing this unit from NAMM was finally a laptop free system, oh but wait only 2 channels. I guess we will have to wait and see if Pioneer are listening to that. When the beat drops, not during your set, but on your Pioneer DJ gear, AlphaTheta Care is here for you. Secondly, the XDJ-RX has many of the practical benefits of a DJ controller, namely that everything is in one box, and so it’s relatively easy to move around, but with the standard layout and features of Pioneer DJ gear that will be instantly recognisable to any DJ used to playing on any Pioneer set-up from the past 20 years. With Pioneer’s Rekordbox laptop analysis pre-gig making it possible for Pioneer DJ equipment to more and more do what software / controller DJs can do, this controller has a lot of the fun of those systems, but with the added benefit of a small learning curve between it and the pro DJ booth.

Pioneer DJ XDJ-RX Standalone DJ System Review

While aimed at two very different users, there will undoubtedly be many who will compare the flagship all-in-one DJ system from Pioneer DJ with the newer model. The obvious comparisons mostly come down to size, such as that of the jogwheels and the screen – while for others channel count might be a factor. The Pioneer RX3 features long-throw pitch faders for accurate adjustments. The Tempo select button gives you the flexibility to adjust the increments. Great for handling a mix between large BPM jumps. Master Tempo is also present along with Beat Sync. I already have a very powerful laptop (rMBP 15”) so I am not counting this cost at all – it’s there alreadyI know it’s a lot ago ask for (the above 5 points) but let’s just start there and see what can be done/bought. If there isn’t a gear that will fulfill all those 5 points, let’s just start crossing out particular points and see what you come up with please. The XDJ-RX can be connected to additional CDJs or turntables using the switchable Line/Phone input and used as a stand-alone mixer. It also features a LAN port, two MIC inputs, two Master outs and a booth out – making it a versatile solution for any set-up. Once again this brings a familiarity to this unit that is hard to beat. Learn how to use the looping section on this and you’ll never have a problem using loops at clubs.

The Pioneer XDJ RX2 offers long pitch faders. The tempo range is adjustable via a button. This gives you the flexibility to move from fine tempo adjustments to larger ranges if needed. Long pitch faders with fine tempo adjustments make beatmatching by ear much easier. If controllers with screens are your primary motivation the Denon Prime 4 is an excellent option. It offers a massive 10-inch screen. Standalone capability is also available. Plus, you’ll open up yourself to 4 channel mixing. The 7-inch, full-colour LCD screen displays information about both players simultaneously for intuitive alignment of beat grids and a visual reference to what features are in play. The screen has two modes: The middle section of the screen on the XDJ-RX3 can either show you the performance pad functionality details in the status mode or let you control audio FX in the beat FX mode. None of this should detract from the fact that this is an update of a very popular unit. Like the XDJ-RX2, it is great to use, but now it feels snappier, and really benefits from that bigger screen. The extra FX are cool, the library functions are heaps better, and some of the new features are immediately useful (we liked the ability to “favourite” four playlists, particularly).

The left-hand side of the mixer offers you access to headphone volume and cue/mix knobs. Above these knobs, you’ll find the Sound Color FX options. As this will undoubtedly come up, you might be wondering what architecture is driving the incredibly responsive, visually impressive XDJ-RX3. At this point, we should invite the development team at Pioneer DJ to take a bow. They’ve somehow managed to squeeze all the features we’ve mentioned earlier from the DSP platform we’ve come to know and rely on. Serato support has been confirmed but is not yet in effect. As Pioneer DJ says, compatibility with Serato DJ Pro will come with the beginning of 2022. The countdown timer – great for timing your DJ sets without needing to continually whip your phone out
