About this deal

the midlands part of this realm." Greville served as Chancellor of the Exchequer from 1614 to 1621. He was later raised to the peerage as Baron Brooke and then servant, Ralph Haywood. Haywood was not impressed with the paltry bequest and, in a fit of rage, stabbed his master while helping him dress at his house in With William I came the manorial system which basically means we gave knights a title and let them rule over a piece of land or manor. We arrived bright and early on Saturday morning ready to experience their The Haunted Castle event. This event is running daily until October 31 and is suitable for all the family.

We really enjoyed it and went through here twice - and were still scared by different characters each time. For both events, the characters and actors really make it for you. Again modern reports claim that Frances was in the “Japanese Corridor” when this occurred, yet I cannot (at the moment at least) find any contemporary reference to Frances being in the “Japanese Corridor”. He brought a medium from Birmingham, and I believe they raised, or saw, a little girl carrying flowers. I can only hope they were satisfied. Because of this, stories of encounters with supernatural entities at the castle numbers in the hundreds.

Overview

Halloween is right around the corner and the county's favourite castle is hosting a spooky spectacular. Upscares Downscares was very entertaining and got all the younger children involved - the characters really make it and are incredibly funny. Then, when the Normans invaded England, William the Conqueror took the English crown in the Battle of Hastings in 1066. Two years later, he makes a wooden motte and bailey fort. I went with my family and we all had something different. I decided to have Guy’s Tower Hot Dog topped with pulled BBQ pork on top and medieval ‘dirty’ chips which are skin on! My Dad had the Fish and Chips and my Mum decided to have one of their sandwiches.

Spectators of the intriguing objects often find they are under an unpleasant sensation of being strangled by an invisible source. These numerous spectres include a semi-transparent Edward Shirley, a former owner, who strides through the lobby each and every Christmas Eve with his canine companion, in The Long Gallery (likely the most paranormally active section of the lodge) a military officer and an eldery woman flit about the room, a serving lass named Mary who met her maker after a sudden drop lingers in the Oak Room and a monk (naturally) is bound to the church.

Book a short break

He seemed to be trying to tell her of a hidden item in the castle however it seems she was not able to locate it. Coombe Abbey Hotel was originally built in the 12 th century as a monastery and it is as spooky as you might expect from such an old building! Guests choosing to spend the night here may find themselves face to face with either a hooded monk or a young green eyed girl! As a family of four, we were certainly spooked - but we also had a really great time. Our favourite mazes were definitely Haunted Hollows, both in the daytime and night. While out of the scare mazes Hunted went down best with my partner and stepson. Blades were thrust through flesh and blood spurted around like rain, cadavers crushed between hooves and boots; a sea of rotting flesh and spewing innards, dead men with dead dreams. Registered assistance dogs are not permitted to enter The Castle Dungeon due to low lighting, steps throughout, light effects and loud noises

The paranormal activity at Salford Hall Hotel is rife throughout the property. The majority of the ghosts that haunt here all seem to have some connection to a religious theme. One of the most common spectres to be seen at Salford Hall Hotel is probably the ghostly nun. She is usually seen on the lower floor of the hotel and has been reported by both staff members and guests alike! She is thought to be the restless soul of a nun who was brutally murdered here sometime in the 17 th century. Neville was later killed in the Battle of Barnet in 1471, while fighting King Edward IV during the War of the Roses (1455 – 1487). The castle then passed to Neville’s son-in-law, George Plantagenet: 1st Duke of Clarence. This was a branch of the English monarchy (1154 – 1485). But, he was executed in 1478 and the castle and its lands passed on to Edward Plantagenet. He was only two years old. photocluster via Getty Images Poor Edward Plantagenet This part deserves a point in itself. When I was a kid, I used to play the games Age of Empires and Total War (showing my age and the fact I was a weird kid) and so I loved learning about battle strategies, warfare and weapons including using the trebuchet. The Castle Dungeon is not suitable for people with claustrophobia due to the enclosed space, narrow pathways and small rooms

What you need to know

The Dead Centre Stage in the courtyard was constantly busy with DJs, bands and dancers on stage at every moment. It felt more like a party atmosphere. And those creepy characters which strolled round seemed even more creepy in the dark. I won't give too much away, but it's a thoroughly entertaining jaunt with each character brought to life (or death!) enthusiastically by their respective actors. It's billed as an attraction for children over five. And while my daughter was a little puzzled at times, she was by no means terrified by the creepy chain of events that unfolded. In the 13th century, a stone castle is made in place of a wooden one and by the 14th century, many of the towers and ramparts we see today are built. And the mournful wails of a distraught woman believed to have been walled up with her infant is still heard two centuries after the unspeakable act.

Constructed in the 12th century, Coombe Abbey was originally the abbey for a group of Cistercian monks. It passed into the Harington family after the dissolution of monasteries, who sold it to numerous owners until the Craven family took possession in 1622 and held onto it until 1921. This large selection of ghosts indicates a wide variation of haunting phenomena and Ettington Park is no exception to the rule. The servant was unimpressed with the sum. He considered it paltry and insubstantial to what he felt he was owed in return for his labour. In rage and fury, he stabbed Fulke with a flurry of blows from a blade at his house in London. The most commonly sighted ghost at the Coombe Abbey Hotel is a hooded monk who may possibly be the restless spirit of Abbott Geoffrey who was murdered rather brutally on the grounds in 1345. He is often seen wandering the castle grounds in a long cloak and hooded robe at night. He is also said to be the one behind the poltergeist activity that has been reported throughout the house, but primarily in the kitchen! Some have speculated that the Abbott is bound to Earth because he is still searching for his murderer who got away scot-free! One of the most infamous events that has been scratched into the paranormal record disc of the castle was the shanking of Sir Fulke Greville. Fulke was gifted the castle by King James I in 1604 and restored the shattered ruin of a castle into a glamorous palace filled with rich food, extravagant furniture and lavish wines.Since his brutal slaying, the apparition of Fulke Greville has been sighted wandering the halls of his former home. I went to Merry Hill's new Halloween experience 'The House on the Hill' and wanted to call the Ghostbusters Many people have encountered the malevolent spirit with an aggressive nature who lurks in the dungeon and on one investigation in the Kingmaker (a labyrinth of rooms with waxworks at every turn), we experienced true poltergeist activity when a coin was thrown towards the group from beyond the gates. During one vigil in Caesar's tower the activity became so intense we had to leave the area. The new residents made lots of extensions including the state dining rooms, conservatory, and gardens.
