About this deal

First of all, he studied contemporary styles at the prestigious school Ecole Camondo. Studies allowed him to form his specific aesthetic. After that, in 2000, he founded his Parisian firm, that manages to grow up to 15 employees. Above all, with projects coming from all over the world, from America to Russia to Dubai, sign of the real fame that surrounds the designer. The mural makes the original architecture all but disappear, opening up the confined space into something that feels limitless and boundless,” Deniot says of the Mathias Kiss painting he commissioned for the walls of the staircase. Inspired by stormy Parisian skies, the mural, Deniot continues, is “a poetic way to bring guests up to their private quarters.” Inside, however, French influences abound. In the drawing room, a sofa recalls the designs of the acclaimed 20th-century designer Jean-Charles Moreux, and the dining room is home to Empire-style wall paneling. Deniot says his goal was to create a neoclassical feel. Probably 1920s France because I truly love the period. Industry was in complete effervescence then. I certainly would have traveled to Austria, London and New York to partake in the global and glorious synergy of the era. Surely, I would have been great in Les Années folles! 5. You travel between many places, where would you like to work or live next? In the 18th-century farmhouse in Touraine, France, that Deniot shares with his sister and business partner, Virginie Deniot, the Napolean III leather club chairs are from the Clignancourt flea market, in Paris, and the blue-and-white mirror was given to the siblings by their grandmother. 1. Apart from the great European decorators and designers you mention in your book — Henri Samuel, Jean-Michel Frank and Alberto Pinto — who out there inspires you? Any Americans?

Featured on the ELLE Decor and AD 100 lists of the world’s preeminent talents in architecture and interior design, Jean-Louis Deniot has long been in the business of creating atmospheres. His décors are his playground, spaces where spontaneity and magic are de rigueur. Recognized worldwide for his eclectic and emblematic interiors, Jean-Louis Deniot plays in a multiplicity of repertoires, letting his academic training translate into a vocabulary that is both informal and bold.Jean-Louis Deniot has also earned recognition for the furniture and lighting collections in collaboration with Jean de Merry, George Smith, Collection Pierre, Pouenat, Bronze d’Art Français and more recently Marc de Berny with the Sparkx Collection. All his bespoke lines are designed in the continuity and respect of each brand’s personality and style yet replete with forward-thinkingness and savory twists. Minimalism is not for Jean-Louis Deniot, nor is excess. Balance and osmosis is what he creates, offsetting the sometimes rigid facet of architecture with an inmost vision of refinement, comfort and openness making his creations around the world havens to revel in. For him, style equates lifestyle – it must promote harmony and wellbeing. A great enthusiast of iconic designs, his decors feature no shortage of arresting materials and textures tempered with subtle color palettes, muted tones and impeccable lighting. At the crossroads between classical terminology and contemporary aesthetics, Jean-Louis Deniot’s interiors are serene, elegant and dramatic as awash with nods to other time periods, yet never typical or literal. When he ’s not boarding an airplane or working abroad, he resides chiefly in his Paris apartment or his home in the French countryside. As is made clear by his Rizzoli monograph, Jean-Louis Deniot: Interiors, Deniot gets to hang out in some of the most richly furnished properties in France and the United States — and not just those of his clients. Destinations is a testament to that as it showcases 18 of Deniot's spectacular international projects, including the interior of a private jet in Aspen and his own Paris office."—VERANDA To embellish the cabin, Deniot designed 100% wool carpeting that was manufactured by Tai Ping Carpet featuring asymmetrical patterns and shapes, and in colors that blend into the general color scheme. Refined and sensuous materials are used throughout the cabin, with lower paneling in braided leather, kitchenette and bar in a matte finished burl wood with brushed silver trimming and fittings, and suede embossed with a faux stingray motif. Attention to detail brings refinement to each space, galley and bathroom included. However, ornate decorative accessories and artwork do not have a place in this streamlined décor. You can respect the history of a building and come up with a new story that still refers to that history without using pastiche,” JEAN-LOUIS DENIOT One of The Towers’ lobby entrances, designed by Jean-Louis Deniot.I believe that eclecticism is the basis of convivial decoration, allowing a room to give an impression of spontaneity and naturalness. The ambience of the dining room, for example, owes much to its mix of mid-century furniture from Italy, France and the United States. In the lobby, I placed a sofa inspired by a Californian piece from the 1950s next to chairs by the Czech designer Jindřich Halabala from the 1930s.

In contrast to the Parisian elegance that starts the book off, Deniot’s seven-bedroom manoir in the French countryside, where on weekends he entertains friends from all over the world, gave him an opportunity to work within a more conservative scheme. He dazzles with his selection of velvet and striped fabrics, eclectic furniture and somewhat brighter colors. The stormy-sky mural painted by artist Mathias Kiss in the stair hall. I really enjoy the juxtaposition of Kiss’s abstract treatment on top of the original building’s rather academic 19th-century design. It loosens up the formal structure. The mural makes the original architecture all but disappear, opening up the confined space into something that feels limitless and boundless. It’s a poetic way to bring guests up to their private quarters. The Antique Accoutrement A guest bathroom exemplifies Deniot ’s creative ambition. In a space where other designers might simply use paint or wallpaper, it ’s a triumph of materials. Denoit combined thin strips of contrasting stone to create a rigorously striped tour de force of careful craftsmanship. Jean-Louis Deniot carried the leafy ambience outside his country home into its entry, with green Lelièvre mohair velvet upholstery on the 18th-century Portuguese settee and early-18th-century wrought-iron plant stands from Spain. The French lantern overhead is mid-19th century. His past projects span houses in the Hamptons, an apartment in Chicago, chalets in Aspen, private residences in Miami, a revamped original Paul Williams property in Beverly Hills, an Art Deco city house and a palace in New Delhi, a 1930’s style penthouse in Milan, a summer house in Capri, a 70’s style apartment in Colombia, a private home on the Bosphorus in Istanbul and an estate in Monaco. Paris is home to several stunning achievements such as mansions and private apartments among countless others.Erin Swift: French Accents: At Home with Parisian Objects and Details, Potter, 2013, ISBN 978-0307985309 Search this book on ..
