About this deal

Minisforum confirms that their Mini-PC supports up to 65W TDP CPU, which includes Ryzen 5000G series and some Ryzen 5000X SKUs, such as 5600X. It will be up to customers to decide what PSU they need, the company claims that 600W of power will be needed for a 5600X enabled system. Memory and storage expansion wise, both can support up to 64GB of dual channel DDR4 memory across two SO-DIMM slots. However, the B550 has two M.2 slots supporting 2280 SSDs while the NUC has 4 M.2 slots. We continue the Minisforum B550 review with some gameplay benchmarks. We will be testing with the B550’s internal Radeon graphics, the Radeon RX 6400 and the Geforce 3070 TI external graphics cards. Forza Horizon 5 Jul 25th 2023 MINISFORUM Announces Development of New Intel Raptor Lake HX55 series and AMD 7045HX ITX Platform (5) The Minisforum Elitemini B550 mini PC features the AMD Ryzen 7 5700G processor with 8 Cores and 16 Threads running up to 4.6GHz. It also has the Radeon Graphics running up to 2100Mhz for high performance video and 3D rendering.

The basic configuration of the Minisforum EliteMini B550 without an external graphics card manages to outperform both the EliteMini TH50 and the EliteMini HM90. But once we compare it with the Minisforum EliteMini HX things become a little more challenging. With just a few percentage points separating the two, the difference is not really noticeable. However, once a dedicated graphics card is in play, that is no longer the case. Our choice of an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 is representative of a card at the upper end of mid-range products of this kind. As such, it provides the Minisforum EliteMini B550 with some serious legs when it comes to graphics performance. The performance improvement of a dedicated graphics card over the iGPU is simply enormous. In spite of this, this pairing still lines up behind the Zotac ZBOX Magnus EN173070C performance-wise. MINISFORUM says there’s room in the case for graphics cards up to 300mm (11.8 inches) in length. And the company also equips the large case with a SilverStone SFX 650W power supply, so it shouldn’t have trouble driving power for the AMD processor and a discrete GPU.. Please note that the B550 supports both integrated and discrete graphics processors. You’ll need a dedicated graphics card if your CPU doesn’t have integrated graphics.

Barebone / 16GB (8GB x 2) / 32GB (16GB x 2) RAM and 256 / 512GB SSD are available as options. Remove the four screws that secure the underside to gain access to the inside. Inside, there are three different sorts of growth spaces. You can expand the capacity to meet your specific requirements. Performance of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 in conjunction with the Miniforum EliteMini B550 is at about the same level as one of our test systems built on an AMD Ryzen 9 5900X. Differences due to any limitations of the graphics card are barely noticeable at higher resolution levels. The higher IPC of the AMD Ryzen 9 5900X versus the AMD Ryzen 7 5700G is only apparent at lower resolution levels. We tested the same graphics card in an eGPU case connected via Thunderbolt and found that performance was 25 percent higher than on a Minsiforum EliteMini TH50. Users can therefore choose between buying, for instance, Ryzen 5 5600G and Ryzen 5 5600X, however, the latter option will require a discrete GPU. This works because the B550 Pro mini PC itself has a PCIe 3.0 x16 connector on the bottom of the computer. Place the system inside the external case and that connector attaches to the PCIe 3.0 interface in the case, allowing you to plug a graphics card. For GPU, both mini PC can support most 2-slot GPUs on the market. NUC is limited to 12 inches long while the B550 have no length limitation.

Measuring only 7.4 x 6.5 x 2.6 inches (15.8 x 16.65 x 6.7 cm) and weighing 1129 grams, the Minisforum Elitemini B550 mini PC takes up minimal space on your desktop and is also very portable for travelling between office meetings or longer term travel. We get a maximum read speed of 3,257 MB/s and a write speed of 2,876 MB/s. It is a little lower than we usually see with this SSD which is generally in the 3,500 read / 3000 write area. System Benchmark Summary By giving two options, this solution is somewhat a hybrid between a Mini-PC and a typical desktop system. It can either be powered by bundled 19V power supply if the discrete GPU is not attached or alternatively powered by ATX or SFX (12V) power supply. The external case measures 320 x 170 x 160mm (12.6″ x 6.7″ x 6.3″) and has both a PCIe 3.0 x16 connector for a graphics card and a PCIe x4 connector that can be used to add an extra SSD to the computer. But the computer also has a modular design that allows you put the mini PC inside an external case to connect an external graphics card, and additional storage, among other things. Minisforum confirmed earlier that the system will feature liquid-metal cooling for the CPU/APU and the whole system may consume from 120W to 1000W ofpower. There is so far no information on the release date or the price. Up to 64GB of DDR4 Dual Channel RAM can be installed. The Minisforum Elitemini B550 has support for up to 2TB M.2 2280 SSD with an additional slot for extra storage. There is also space inside the mini PC for a 2.5” HDD or SSD for additional storage.
