[20] Revised Fourth Edition [ edit ] Games Workshop released the third edition for Talisman in the spring of 1994. The third edition contained a new board which included many of the same locations as the first and second editions, but had a new art treatment. The Inner Region became The Wizard's Tower. To begin, players select a character card from among the 14 provided. Characters have basic statistics to start. These are Life [hit points], Strength [physical prowess], and Craft [Magic and Intelligence]. Some characters are naturally more gifted in combat and others in magic, while others are mix of the two. Additionally characters are often differentiated with unique abilities, starting equipment, and starting spells. This all makes the players actually feel different during play. "Open Box: Dungeon Modules". White Dwarf (review). Games Workshop (52): 16. ISSN 0265-8712. The primary object of the game is to reach the Crown of Command at the centre of the board. The game contains three regions: Outer, Middle, and Inner. Players start in the Outer Region and try to progress to the Inner Region, through the Valley of Fire, and claim the Crown of Command. The game's name, "Talisman", refers to the rule that only characters possessing a Talisman card may enter the Valley of Fire. Before you head to claim the Crown of Command, you need to make sure you’re powerful enough! The challenge ahead isn’t an easy one, the Inner Region is fraught with danger and creatures with high Strength and Craft.

Players may hold and cast spell cards according to their craft level. 3 craft allows you to hold and cast 1 spell per turn, 4 or 5 craft increases your limit to 2 spells per turn and at 6 craft and above your maximum spell limit increases to 3. If at any point a player gains access to a spell with an insufficient craft level to own it they must discard it immediately to the spell discard pile. Players can only cast as many spells per turn as the number of spells they had at that turn’s beginning and they may also only cast 1 spell on another player’s turn given they still have spells to use. All spells have limits stated on them such as when they can be cast and all spells that target creatures cannot do so in the inner region. Objects Cards place your character model on its given starting spot, which is written at the bottom of the character card along with your alignment (evil, neutral and good). Turn Example
