About this deal

The main idea behind the design is that the wing nut will slow down the feeding of beans to avoid stalling the motor. This makes sense if you’re runnning the device with a huge hopper full of beans. But most people reading this in 2022 are probably using the Encore for single-dosing. So if that’s your workflow, then just try and unscrew the wing nut. Exact same trusted functionality with a sleek new exterior! The Baratza Encore is the ultimate entry-level grinder for your craft coffee journey - the key difference to the taste in your cup. I’m thinking of buying one of these. If I want to make a drip pot of coffee that holds 1.3 liters of water, how many grams of beans would you suggest I weigh out to grind? (I do like strong coffee.)

The dosing cup is cleverly designed with an adaptor to fit both commercial-standard 58-mm portafilters and the 54-mm portafilters found on many domestic machines. Baratza remains one of the few premium grinder manufacturers focusing on the home market. Featuring 40 individual grind settings, from fine to coarse, the Encore can please any palate with its gamut of accurate and repeatable grind settings. The Encore has an accurate medium to coarse grind for the increasingly popular manual brew methods such as pour-over, Aeropress, Siphon and Chemex. The specially designed burrs give a precise grind with minimal fines for a flavorful, balanced extraction when making espresso. A powerful, high torque DC motor effortlessly drives the burrs. This motor turns slowly resulting in cool, quieter operation, and permits long grinding duty cycles. The circuitry is equipped with an automatically resetting, thermal cutoff switch. CALIBRATION Beyond a great coffee-drinking experience, the Encore makes for a great coffee-making experience. A convenient, front-mounted pulse button makes it easy to grind on demand into your brew basket. Whether you are looking for an espresso grinder or a grinder to help you explore that extensive range of brew methods, the Encore is a great all around home grinder. The Baratza Encore is very simple to use. You simply place your beans in the hopper, ensure the grinder is turned on, and then either switch the on/off switch on the side or push the pulse button on the front of the machine. Then when the desired amount has been ground, simply switch the switch to the off position or take your finger off the pulse button. The grounds fall into the grounds bin from which you can transfer them to your preferred brewer and you are away laughing. The shortcomings of the user experience aspect are static’s fault. The grounds container has a weak spot for static, making it a messy and annoying experience to deal with. You’ll need to use the Ross Droplet Technique that James Hoffmann made popular. 💡 Beating static ???? The Virtuoso’s throughput rate is about twice as fast as the Encore’s. The Virtuoso+ grinds at 1.5–2.4 grams per second compared to the Encore at 0.8–1.1 grams per second. The difference is largely due to burr geometry as the models share the same motor. The Virtuoso’s M2 burr grinds much faster than the Encore’s M3 burr. Controls Motor: A powerful, high torque DC motor effortlessly drives the burrs. This motor turns slowly resulting in cool, quiet operation and permits long grinding duty-cycles. The circuitry is equipped with an automatically resetting, thermal cutoff switch.

You want more bells and whistles – If you don’t feel that the Encore will meet your requirements for versatility, consider paying a little more for the Breville Smart Grinder Pro. With 600 possible micro-adjustments, a digital timer, and dose control, this machine is the iPhone of burr grinders. The Baratza Encore is the ideal entry level electric grinder. Great for manual brewed coffee. Compact enough for any kitchen it will take your coffee experience to a new level. If you brew Aeropress, filter and cafetiere this is an ideal grinder for you. The Encore features a manual on-off dial switch on the side panel and a front-mounted button to pulse-dose small amounts or directly into a portafilter. It does not have a timer. The most important part of this review of the Baratza Encore is the reasons we love it. Some of these features are common across the Baratza range, some are very specific to this machine. The Encore is Way Better Than Blade or Manual So , if you’re tired of cranking slowly every morning, the Baratza Encore is an excellent option, mainly if you are on a budget. You want to upgrade from a blade grinder Grinds Left in Grinder: To maximize freshness, the Encore minimises the ground coffee left in the grinder.

The Encore’s maintenance and cleaning costs are pretty low compared to the burden of lower-quality grinders. For this reason, I don’t recommend cheap alternatives, although several affordable options are worth considering. Baratza Encore Alternatives That said, we’ve never *really* tried to make espresso with the Baratza Encore. Maybe it does work well. But from our experience, the grind size adjustments are more for the journey from AeroPress (approaching-espresso-fine) to french press (rather coarse). This grinder isn’t really for you to dial in the perfect and specific extraction for your precious latte, as the “Baratza Encore espresso setting” simply doesn’t exist. We Make Pour Over, AeroPress, and Cold Brew Coffee The company’s customer service is generally awesome. If you have a problem they will fix it. It’s actually a part of Baratza’s philosophy to design their grinders so they can easily be repaired. That’s pretty rare among appliance manufacturers. The Encore is ideal for pour over. Baratza Encore Grinder ReviewThe Virtuoso+ has 40 degrees of grind adjustment and a range of 200–1200 microns. As with the Encore, you choose your setting by rotating the hopper. It has an upgraded M2 burr that produces a more uniform grind, especially at coarse and espresso settings. Like the Encore, this model is versatile enough for most home methods such as manual pour-over, automatic drip, AeroPress, and cold brew. The more consistent grind does justice to espresso, although you can’t fine-tune between settings. On the Encore’s side is a 2-way on/off switch, and on the front is a pulse grinding button. There are no timers or dose controlling features. To adjust the grind size, all you have to do is twist the hopper to one of the 40 graduated markings (more on that below).
