About this deal

After moving to Worthenbury, near Wrexham, he worked as a teacher before writing his debut novel, The Snowdonia Killings. Detective Inspector Ruth Hunter lives with the pain of her partner’s mysterious and unsolved disappearance. There are secrets galore, and often the characters have attitudes and issues that complicate matters for Ruth.

Filming of The Snowdonia Killings was originally due to have taken place last year, with Netflix among the distributors interested. Now the body count is set to soar still further in one corner of our region - but fortunately it is all in the name of fiction as a master storyteller releases his latest crime book. On the police side, Nick’s alcoholism is dealt with in far more depth than is usually the case with cops who suffer from addiction in crime novels. Arabella was an ambitious, manipulative woman who used sex to get what she wanted and conflict surrounded her.Legends of drowned princes, Owain Glyndwr’s war of independence, jokes about English incomers drinking sheep urine – plenty of Welsh flavour here.

Published in May 2022 by Harper Collins (Avon), The Dark Isle topped the UK Kindle chart and became Waterstones Wales’ best ever “book of the month” seller. The Snowdonia Killings is the first in the series and it perfectly demonstrates why indie crime fiction is part of any healthy diet. She’s already had one outing on the island, tackling a drugs gang holding passengers hostage onboard a sightseeing cruise ship. She’s transferred to the nick in fictional Llancastell in North West Wales expecting that the criminal activity will be sheep rustling and quad bike theft. Now pushing fifty, the veteran police officer trades in the crime-ridden streets of London for a more peaceful post in rural North Wales. The eighth book in the series was set in Menai Bridge, and Anglesey is now the base for his new protagonist, former DI Laura Hart, an experienced hostage negotiator.

The police procedural aspect is strong, but using a huge variety of characters the author manages to drive the story in various directions. With such a complex case, and all the red herrings the author sends your way, guessing who the killer is turns out to be very difficult. But Covid-disrupted schedules pushed back the project and Simon is keeping his fingers crossed filming finally gets underway in autumn 2023. The Snowdonia Killings is the first book in the DI Ruth Hunter Crime Thriller series and set against the majestic backdrop of Snowdonia, a timeless land of Arthurian legend, folklore and myth. Thousands upon thousands of readers in the UK and around the world have downloaded and enjoyed this book a great deal.

Lies After Death is a crime debut for KJ Dando, someone who has had various jobs and has served in the British Army in the Balkans and Iraq. But, as police procedurals, the plots rip along and, refreshingly, the lead characters lack the foibles that are the hallmark of so many modern sleuths. Following a parents evening, when nearly everyone else has gone home, she meets her killer in the school carpark and it’s lights out.

Victims have met their deaths in all manner of grisly ways, the sole comfort being the inevitable unmasking of the perpetrators. But Ruth has barely settled in when the body of a teacher is discovered… with strange symbols carved into her skin.

Big Island, LA connects the dots between a heist gone wrong at a police shooting range and corporate greed and political corruption, leaving a former combat marine and an agoraphobic crime reporter to sort out the mystery. His Killings series, featuring DI Ruth Hunter, has sold over a million copies, and a major new TV show based on the books is due to begin shooting in Snowdonia in late 2023. An investigation gets underway and even though she’s new Ruth Hunter is named SIO, with DS Nick Evans at her side. Simon’s deal is for six Laura Hart outings: her Anglesey sleuthing is set to throw a national spotlight on the island in ways it could never have imagined. The biggest worry is winning over a team of mainly local coppers who live in tight-knit communities that have been circumspect about English incursion for about 750 years.
