About this deal

Amazing that you can just hold 1 of these copper cooler pipes in your hand and with your own body heat it will cut through ice! The second revision of the Scythe Mugen 2 cooler (SCMG-2100) was released quite a long time ago but we haven’t been able to get a sample to test until now. The box is designed in such a way that your eye focuses on the letter B which denotes the new revision. There are a couple gaps in the fins at the edges of the heatsink that are used to get a screw driver down to the mounting crossbar.

The heat pipes are not vertical but slanting in the aluminum fins which must be the consequence of technological process rather than some new feature devised by Scythe engineers. An auxiliary aluminum heatsink (64×40 mm) is installed above the heat pipes. It serves as the support for the cooler’s fasteners. The Rasetsu can be installed without taking the mainboard out of the system case and without using any tools. Featuring the Versatile Tool-Free Multiplatform System, it can be mounted easily on the CPU. First, you insert the fasteners into the cooler’s bottom heatsink. Two pairs of fasteners, wire clips for a fan, an installation guide and Scythe thermal grease are included with the cooler. If you’re not sure if you want to go the air cooling route (a big metal heatsink with fans) or opt for a liquid-cooled AIO (a pump attached to a radiator and fans), there are a few things to consider. Large air coolers tend to take up more internal space in your PC case, or at the very least they need more vertical clearance off your best motherboard, which can limit your case options. Air coolers can also be louder and less efficient than liquid coolers at moving heat away from your CPUand out of the chassis. These days, though, that’s not cut and dry. If you can go the extreme route, there are fanless air cooling options like Noctua's Colossal NH-P1 as well for the ultimate truly silent cooling option, although you'll still need case fans to move the warmed air out of your case. The pressure is high and the steel fastening is absolutely reliable. The Mugen 2 should be oriented in such a way that its heat pipes ran across the CPU (as in the right photo). We explored this model and its performance in our article called “Six Coolers for Intel Core i7-980X Extreme Edition Processor”, so we won’t repeat ourselves here.

HDD for games and programs: Western Digital VelociRaptor (SATA-II, 300 GB storage capacity, 10,000 RPM, 16 MB cache, NCQ) inside Scythe Quiet Drive 3.5” silencer and cooler chassis; Had a late night last night as I set up msi afterburner to show cpu temps in game as I’m curious seeing what cpu temps and gpu temps are doing. While heatpipes are rather thin walled and made from soft copper, what ever caused that bending likely left some residual stresses. As we tortured both the AXP-100 Full Copper cooler and our 4770K, we found that with 12 volts running through the fan that it indeed does spin at 2500 RPM, but was still only delivering 44dB of noise at this time.Apr 27th 2023 ASUS ROG Announces Ryujin III All-in-One CPU Coolers with Simplified Fan Connection and Advanced Pump (3) Since it doesn't completely clear the memory area when it is slid to the left, very tall heat spreaders may cause issues in that slot nearest the CPU. There are no grooves for heat pipes in the cooler’s base. Perhaps they will be implemented in the third revision. The cooler’s sole is ideally finished and flat. looking at nzxt aio cooler as 1st gen with 5 years warranty and base plate looks to be 1 whole piece of copper rather than 4 copper pipes thats been roughly made smooth with 1 pass of a lathe machine of some sort....

All tests were performed under Windows 7 Ultimate x64 operating system. We used the following software during our test session: Due to the use of copper, the heatsink is extremely heavy for the size at 640 g. While the weight is not surprising considering the material choice, it does have added benefits, of which one is a stiffer, stronger design. The fins themselves feel solid with very little flex, and as a result, I found none of them bent upon initial inspection. Other benefits of copper include the ability for it to absorb more heat than aluminium. However, while that is true, aluminium tends to absorb and dissipate heat faster. It's a common mistake to assume that any water cooler is inherently better than any air cooler. Liquid coolers do have some undeniable advantages, but a specific cooler's design is critically important, and some air coolers perform better than some water coolers. Generally speaking, you can expect bigger coolers of either design to outperform smaller ones, simply because larger coolers generally have more metal within to spread out absorbed heat and can typically mount more or bigger fans. Both of these factors contribute to more efficient cooling.\Not only does Corsair's iCUE H100i Elite Capellix cooler have an enticing aesthetic design, it also has one of the lowest-rated noise production levels that we've seen on a CPU water cooler. To be fair, the cooler can get a bit loud when the fans and pump are operating at full speed—when everything's revved up, Corsair says, the noise can climb to 37dBA. At ideal temperatures, however, the Elite Capellix is rated for as little as 10dBA, which is practically inaudible assuming the number holds in your specific build. He was literally going through fans one by one to find, if it was some interaction between fans, or what in PC was causing that noise. Because of marketing BS design noise profile is rough and restless with frequency spikes in it at all speeds.
