About this deal

White Walker by Johnnie Walker was inspired by the White Walkers on the hit TV series – Game of Thrones. This limited edition whisky was launched in October 2018. Combining single malts from one of Scotland’s most Northern distillery – Clynelish and the Cardhu distillery, this blend has notes of fresh red berries, vanilla, and caramelised sugar. In celebration of the eighth and final season of the critically-acclaimed TV series, Game of Thrones, Johnnie Walker is proud to introduce a number of products inspired by the show. The whisky, a Mortlach single malt aged 15 years, has been named ‘Six Kingdoms’ by spirits group Diaego and broadcaster HBO.

House Tully located at Riverrun, rules as the lord of the River lands. The power of water flows through both House Tully and The Singleton Glendullan Select as it is made on the banks of the River Fiddich in the wooded hills of Dufftown. Here they harnessed the water that flowed through the land utilizing a water wheel to power the entire distillery. The Scotch, from the Mortlach distillery in Dufftown, in Scotland’s Speyside whisky region, also comes encased in a gold canister adorned by the show’s three-eyed raven character. Lagavulin is one of the most legendary single malt brands and has been crafted on the shores of Islay for more than 200 years – mirroring the meticulous calculation and tenacity employed by the Lannister’s in their rise to conquer the Iron throne. As a fan of both Johnnie Walker and Game of Thrones, I figured why not give the limited edition whisky a review. I doubt the bottle will be as good as the show, but maybe it’ll have a better finish. After some brief history, we’ll get into more specifics of the bottle and its tasting notes. Johnnie Walker History In celebration of the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones, Diageo and HBO have released a series of limited-edition single malt whiskies, each paired with one of the iconic Houses of Westeros. House Stark is resilient, strong and has the ability to thrive in even the most extreme of conditions that are thrown at Winterfell, the Stark’s home. Dalwhinnie is known for being one of the highest distilleries in Scotland – it is cold and remote much like Winterfell. It makes the two an iconic pairing. Naturally, Dalwhinnie’s Winter Frost is best served chilled or over ice. Song of Ice by Johnnie Walker - Blended Scotch Whisky: Ice shapes mountains and stops rivers. It’s an unforgiving force that hardens everything it touches. Ice is embodied by House Stark, giving the North strength like no other kingdom. The Stark sigil, a Direwolf, bares its fangs and warns that Winter Is Coming. Like an icy northern wind, it howls its verse of A Song of Ice. Johnnie Walker is calling on Game of Thrones fans to declare their allegiance, Stark or Targaryen, Direwolf or Dragon. Wheter it's fire you desire or you have ice in your veins, Johnnie Walker has a Game of Thrones whisky for you. Its launch follows the debut of ‘White Walker’, a Game of Thrones-inspired, blended Scotch within the Johnnie Walker brand. Each of these eight unique, new scotches is paired with one of the iconic Houses of Westeros, as well as the Night’s Watch, giving fans an authentic taste of the Seven Kingdoms and beyond. These iconic whiskies serve as must-have collectibles for Game of Thrones and whisky adorers to toast to the final season. Johnnie Walker Launches Game of Thrones™ Collection

The Johnnie Walker walking man’s eyes light up into an icy blue like the white walkers, and the side of the bottle features the message “winter is here”. GoT White Walkers This whisky is supposed to evoke the idea of being around dragons by its use of Caol Ila in the blend. A workhorse distillery that makes up the main peaty component of all standard Johnny Walker blends, but seems to be all but absent from this blend. I was hoping for a massive peat-forward blend that poured like a bonfire, but as you’ll see below, it was barely a match strike.White Walker is also chill-filtered and said to be best served cold. Chill filtered means that the whisky was set to a very low temperature, in this case 1.5* Celsius, and passed through filters. When whisky get very cold it has a tendency to become cloudy due to particles clumping together. Chill filtering ensures that when a whisky spends time in a freezer, it won’t come out hazy. Bottle Only ‘extremely limited quantities’ have been released, said Diageo and HBO, without giving exact figures.

One of the cool things about JW WW is about what’s on the outside of the bottle, not the inside. The bottle features a icy white and blue wrapping with the walking man on the front. However, much like a Coors Light can, the bottle changes when it reaches temperatures below freezing. When the bottle reaches temperatures below freezing, the bottle undergoes some changes. The eyes of the walking man logo become icy blue. The side of the bottle features the message “WINTER IS HERE”, and some extra icy blue slash marks are added to the bottle. Is Johnnie Walker White Walker Different? Whisky was simply a commodity offered by John Walker and his grocery store. However, after his death in 1857, Alexander Walker took over and transformed it into a booming business. A law passed in 1860 further softened the laws around scotch, and Alexander Walker took advantage. Whisky sales became 90% of their sales in comparison to the previous 8% or so under his father.

Whether in conflict or harmony, this is a tale of two great houses represented by two ancient creatures. One is a house descended from the First Men. Rulers of the North and builders of the wall, they thrive in the icy-cold climate of the Direwolf. The other, a noble family of Valyrian descent and the first royal house of the Seven Kingdoms. Fire courses through their veins and is made flesh in the form of their dragons.
