About this deal

Position the turntable chassis on a sturdy surface. Install the platter and make certain it is fully seated. Place the felt mat on the platter. If you are connecting to an “Aux” type line-level input or powered speakers, place the selector switch in the LINE position to use the turntable’s internal phono preamp. The USB output was trouble free, but a word of warning. Audio-Technica has set the analogue input level a bit too high. I recorded a segment of “The Safety Dance” by Men Without Hats from the 45rpm 12-inch single and sections of it were clipped by the ADC. You’d be hard put to hear it, and the fairly high transfer level probably increases overall enjoyment. Nonetheless, a purist like me would like to see perhaps 6dB more headroom. Gadgetguy’s Take – the Audio-Technica AT-LP120XBT-USB is a no-fuss, high performance turntable with all manner of useful extras For customers in outlying areas of the country, the price of the Extended Warranty may be marginally higher, due to the potential for higher collection and redelivery transport costs. In addition to the built-in Bluetooth transmitter, the LP120XBT-USB has a traditional PHONO output along with a built-in magnetic phono preamp providing an RIAA equalized line level output. This makes it compatible with traditional PHONO inputs on amplifiers and receivers, along with Aux or Line level inputs on powered speakers, amplifiers, and other audio equipment.

By the way, be smarter than me and make sure you switch from line level output to phono level before you plug it into a phono preamplifier. Fortunately there was no damage to my treasured Moon 110LP v2 phono preamplifier.) Going digital with the Audio-Technica AT-LP120XBT-USB turntableHowever, the Gear4music extended warranty scheme provides an enhanced service, and is designed to offer a higher level of protection than many 'free' warranties offered by some retailers and manufacturers. A/D, D/A – 16-bit/44.1 kHz or 48 kHz USB selectable; Computer interface – USB 2.0 Compliant Windows 7 or above, or MAC OS X or above

Before pairing the turntable, make certain the PHONO/LINE selector switch on the rear of the turntable is set to LINE. If an item can not be repaired, a similar alternative product or cash discount (as defined in this policy) will be offered You don’t have to use the wireless Bluetooth link. Audio Technica have made it easy to link up the LP120XBTUSB to your non-Bluetooth system, too. A built-in phono stage means you don't have to have a hi-fi or speaker with a phono pre-amp built-in - any AUX input will work fine. Featuring a direct drive motor, the AT-LP120XBTUSB gives superb pitch stability. It also gives the swift start and stop times needed for complete control when mixing. Connects wirelessly to speakers and other devices equipped with Bluetooth wireless technology, to wired audio systems and powered speakers via included dual RCA output cable, or to computers via included USB cable

Specifications

No two ways about it, the AT-LP120XBT-USB (which from now on we’ll be calling the ‘120’ for the sake of both brevity and sanity) is designed to evoke the classic Technics SL-1200/SL-1210 DJ turntable everyone knows and loves. Answer : The AT-LP120XBT-USB is a fully manual direct-drive turntable that features the convenience of Bluetooth® wireless connectivity along with both analog and USB outputs. The digital copies the 120 makes via its USB output are closer in character to the sound of its wireless, rather than wired, performance. The USB also seems keener to spotlight vinyl surface noise than any of the other outputs – but, nevertheless, the facility to make digital copies of hard-to-find, easy-to-damage records is not to be downplayed. The turntable includes a stylus cue light. It illuminates the record surface to assist in finding the groove in a low-light situation. If needed, plug the cue light into the chassis receptacle and aim it as desired. Disconnecting the cables and putting the 120 on a shelf far from the system it’s linked to is almost satisfying enough to make up for the step down in sound quality that comes with a wireless connection.

Bluetooth connectivity lets you can connect up to your choice of Bluetooth speaker or Bluetooth-equipped hi-fi, wirelessly. Simply pair the turntable with your speaker and enjoy fuss-free connectivity within a range of around 10m. Position the other Bluetooth receiver device (e.g., speakers or headphones) close to the turntable. This is to make certain the pairing process performs correctly. (Once paired, the devices can be separated by up to 30' line of sight.) Turn the turntable power switch on. The red power LED illuminates and the Bluetooth LED flashes blue, indicating that the Bluetooth transmitter is active and ready to pair. Around the rim of the turntable platter are strobe markings. A pedestal at front left shines a red light on this so that you can see that the speed is accurate. (The Australian mains power alternates at a fairly stable 50 hertz. So a light switches on and off 50 times or 100 times per second, depending on its design. The relevant line of strobe markings appear to stand still if the turntable speed is right.) At the right is a slider control which allows you to alter the turntable speed. I’ve never really understood the purpose of this, but there it is. So, about that model number. Let’s break it down. AT-LP refers to the brand’s whole turntable range, and the 120 model is part of a series of what Audio-Technica describe as ‘step-up models’, i.e. above the entry-level options but not the professional/audiophile range. The X in the product title indicates that this is the updated model, introduced in 2019 to replace the original AT-LP120. Finally, the BT-USB suffix indicates that this model includes both Bluetooth and a built-in USB audio interface, allowing you to connect it directly to a computer as well as to analogue inputs on an amplifier or powered speaker. Since the turntable digitises the music, why not transmit it via Bluetooth? Which is indeed what the Audio-Technica AT-LP120XBT-USB turntable can do. It supports the standard Bluetooth stereo music codec, plus the higher quality aptX codec, but not AAC. Setting up the Audio-Technica AT-LP120XBT-USB turntableIf your audio device has its own RIAA magnetic phono preamp, simply set the turntable’s PHONO/LINE selector switch to PHONO, bypassing the internal preamp.
