All front panel controls are intuitive and immediate. Want to mute an input or output? Hold down its button. Want to link channels 3 and 4? Hold down both their input buttons. Want phantom power? Hit an input button, then press the 48V button. The basics are exactly as simple as you’d hope. Each of the inputs can handle microphone or line-level signals, all with 48V phantom power for condenser mics. Power to the interface is supplied directly over a USB-C cable, meaning there’s no need for a separate power supply. It is worth noting that if your computer only has the larger USB-A ports, you’ll need to connect via a USB-A to USB-C cable and only be able to use phantom power on two mic inputs. If your computer has USB-C ports, you can use the supplied cable and run phantom power on all four mic inputs simultaneously. Setup is plug-and-play on a Mac with drivers required under Windows, but either way it’s advisable to install the Evo Mixer application, which allows you to do things like set up routing and upgrade firmware. Quality of the sound is amazing, preamps are close in quality to my RME Fireface UC and the drivers are really solid (I'm on windows). The audio quality of the Evo 4 is very good. Yes, it’s true that most audio interfaces sound good these days but to my ears Evo has that Audient quality sound that I know and love" A more angled top would have suited us more, but then the ID range never had this so it’s curious as to why EVO brings this to our attention!
Input recording is also exemplary, helped a little with a Smart Gain feature that helps you set levels, although to be fair you don’t really need it as such (see below for more on this). Needed more inputs (stereo for acoustic guitar and another input for vocal mic) and this did the job perfectly. Detailed, warm sound with EVO mic preamps On paper this seemed pretty much perfect- a compact interface with 4 inputs, smart gain, from a seemingly reliable manufacturer and for not that huge of a price! When it arrived, it worked fine at first. Then a bug hit me where the interface wouldn’t be detected by Windows after hibernating, so I attempted to reinstall the drivers - a HUGE mistake to say the least.
