About this deal

In the UK we are extremely fortunate to have numerous speciality coffee suppliers, however, their goal has always been to source coffee directly from origin so that they can work towards building sustainable, mutually beneficial relationships with coffee-producing communities. We roast in the medium to light colour range allowing for the characteristics of each coffee to dominate and enabling versatility across multiple brew methods. Most of our single origin coffees are fairly lightly roasted and suitable for all brew methods. For those who prefer a darker roast and lower acidity we've created our Nova Espresso blend.

Every coffee growing origin has a different set of characteristics when it comes to the final cup, whether it’s fruity and floral or chocolatey and full the origin of speciality coffee is always celebrated.

From the beginning, ethical considerations have been a top priority for the Roasters and they hold themselves to high standards. They are the proud purveyor of what they call: ‘Relationship Coffee’ which encompasses more than just superficially visiting farmers and washing stations. Great importance is placed on having a direct relationship and working closely with producers to build sustainable, mutually beneficial relationships, in their case particularly with a Rwandan Coffee Cooperative. So if we have tasted orange zest and you get watermelon then that is brilliant and what we think speciality coffee is all about (as long as you like the coffee). There are many ways to extract the best flavour out of coffee. Take a look at our coffee guides for some tips on how to make your coffee the best it can be. Where’s TheBest Coffee Grown? As all of the best things often do, a trip abroad, in this case to Toronto, sparked a burgeoning new interest for husband and wife team Bradley and Amelia - in Speciality coffee. Upon their return home in 2012 they started experimenting with coffee roasting, initially using a popcorn maker and then moving on to a 1kg roaster in their garage and very successfully selling the coffee thus produced at a regular food market in their beautiful home town of Horsham, Sussex.

They have contributed significantly to certain areas of the coffee-growing world. Especially Rwanda, where they regularly visit. Donating to washing stations and helping build and repair local infrastructure like schools. We first started selling our coffee through a stall at the Horsham food market. As a Sussex coffee roaster Horsham seemed like a great place to start selling our coffee. We’d be there every Thursday and Saturday come rain or shine from 2012 until late 2013. It was a steep learning curve and as we muddled through demand for our coffee increased so we must’ve been doing something right. Coffee production wasn’t the only thing that grew - our family did too! So eventually we had to give up the stall at the market after the birth of our second son, because evidently trying to steam a flat white and feed a small child simultaneously isn’t good for anyone. Our experience at the market was incredibly valuable and ultimately was the launch pad for what Horsham Coffee Roaster was to become and is today. It also helped us meet many of the wonderful folks involved in the local coffee community such as our now long standing team member Stephen, who at the time was on his way to Toronto - the city that started our own coffee journey - to begin his path as superstar barista. Stephen now owns and runs Urban Botanica, a fantastic coffee shop in Kennington, South London. Leaving the market really allowed us to focus on the sourcing and wholesale side of things as well as the space to increase our roasting capacity. South America has quality as well as quantity produced, some amazing coffees come out of Brazil, Colombia and Peru. Central America also has some world-class coffee growing regions, Panama, Costa Rica, Guatemala and Nicaragua grace many cupping tables. Africa, the birthplace of coffee has numerous coffee-growing countries, Ethiopia, Kenya, Burundi and Rwanda are known for excellent coffee. Although the market stall is no more, their roastery now proudly hosts a Loring S35 Kestrel smart roaster (helped to reduce their CO2 emissions by 60%) and their team continues to grow. Horsham are constantly looking for exciting new coffees to add to their range - with a focus on single origins. There are many great coffee growing regions in the world, in Asia, there is Indonesia and India that produce lots of great coffee.
