About this deal

A mysterious list of names is found in the shoe of a dead woman. What is the connection to the village of Much Deeping? Agatha wrote "The Mysterious Affair at Styles", her debut novel ,in 1916, but was unable to find a publisher for it until 1920. The novel introduced her famous character Hercule Poirot and his supporting characters Inspector Japp and Arthur Hastings. The novel is set in World War I and is one of the few of her works which are connected to a specific time period. In July 1974, Mullen (by then 60) returned to the role in another national tour of the same play, culminating 12 months later when the show opened at London's Savoy Theatre on 28 July 1975. [17] At the end of March 1976, the Miss Marple role was taken over by Avril Angers, after which the production transferred to the Fortune Theatre on 5 July. The role then passed to Muriel Pavlow in June 1977 [18] and to Gabrielle Hamilton late the following year; the production finally closed in October 1979. [19]

of Crime: 18 Rare Photos of a Young Agatha Christie The Queen of Crime: 18 Rare Photos of a Young Agatha Christie

A Christie story goes more or less as follows. By means of interrogation—or, in Miss Marple’s case, snooping (she does not eschew field glasses)—the investigator determines two things for each suspect. First, did he have a motive? Was he, for example, the victim’s son, and deeply in debt? The second question is whether the person had an opportunity to commit the crime. Where was the impecunious son at the time of the murder?

In February 2014, the BBC announced it had commissioned the TV series Partners in Crime, with three episodes as an adaptation of The Secret Adversary, written by Zinnie Harris. It aired in July/August 2015, marking the 125th anniversary of Dame Agatha Christie's birth. [10] It is not set in the post-Great War period, so Tommy and Tuppence are not the young things of that era, are married and have a son sent off to school. [11] It is instead set in 1952, with references made to the Cold War against Stalin. [12] Brunsdale, Mitzi (2010). Icons of Mystery and Crime Detection: From Sleuths to Superheroes. ABC-CLIO. And Then There Were None was my most anticipated read of Christie. And let me tell you I wasn't let down. The story started with ten people from different walks of life receiving a letter from an unknown person inviting them to Soldier Island. But are they just travelling to this island or driving into a death pit?

Christie herself said that it took a “tremendous amount of planning” to write the novel, and that she took on the challenge “because it was so difficult to do that the idea had fascinated me”. “Ten people had to die without it becoming ridiculous or the murderer being obvious,” wrote the novelist. “I was pleased with what I had made of it. It was clear, straightforward, baffling, and yet had a perfectly reasonable explanation.” Anna Hervé, editorial director for literary estates at Christie’s publisher HarperCollins, said that although there are “similarities” between the novels, there was “no obvious link” between them. In general both books are about people entrapped within sealed locations … who are methodically ‘executed,’ as it were, by a seemingly omnipotent unknown assailant who never appears as such but rather speaks to them through mechanical means … All of the people … hide guilty secrets. Each novel opens with them reading or thinking over their invitations … to the penthouse/island from their anonymous host,” points out Evans, adding that while the novel was not published in England, its 1934 film adaptation played there.
