Players should no longer be able to vote to end an Emissary session shortly after their ship has sunk. In-game, Duke, the former Bilge Rat, moved from island to island investigating runes and in search of a treasure he believed would explain certain changes he felt was happening to the world. Every few week Duke would appear at a new island location and offer clues on where to find Rune Tablets which contained translation for previously unknown runes. A new ship miniature will cost the player two Wood, one Iron, and two Gold Resource cards (all new ships start with three Life pegs) The Merchant Alliance Lost Shipments map should no longer be blank for a few seconds after opening it.
The game is well thought out. Just reading the guidebook you will see the great detail that went into every aspect of the game. Every mechanic was given thought to how it fit into the game, both in gameplay and in theme. The world and goals are great, just some small issues with the balance of gameplay already discussed. The goal is to get ten points first which are obtained by conquering islands, sinking enemy ships, and burying treasure. On your turn, draw one Resource card for each island you own. Trade and manage your resources (wood, iron, rum, gold) to build and upgrade your fleet using miniatures and pegs. Ships sail the open map via roll and move. Battle enemy ships and conquer islands via dice combat. If you are looking to submerge yourself in a pirate world, this may be the one for you. Completing each Tier of levels within the Season will award a unique Title that shows your success for all to see! So as attractive as the game is, I have no desire to venture out into these briny seas again. The game is too random, suffers from a runaway leader problem, and uses too many mechanics that just aren’t enjoyable.
HIGH REPLAYABILITY: The game board is created by combining six different double-sided ocean tiles which create a unique map configuration each time you play. You’ll never play the same map twice, encouraging you to explore new strategies. Players are able to browse Commendations for ‘The Sunken Pearl’ and ‘Dark Brethren’ Tall Tales before they have completed the preceding Tale. To prevent the experience from being spoiled, avoid reading ahead!

When not exploring, exploiting, and waging battles, a pirate can take up their second favorite hobby and search for buried Treasure. Doing so will reward the player additional resources and other bonuses. All a player need do is sail their ship to a spot where an “X-Marks-the-Spot” token is currently located on the map (or adjoining space if the “X” is on land). Once the player moves into that space, they draw a Treasure card and resolve it. Most Treasure cards will instruct the player to draw Resource cards (frequently Gold), but some will reward Plunder Points, provide ship upgrades, and even damage opponent’s ships. Of course, not all Treasure is worth acquiring. Some Treasure cards will penalize the player by losing Resource cards or worse. They then grabbed the Cursed Captain's skull and placed it on the body of the chess-playing pirate on the right. Before doing that, though, the captain requested our pirate place a trinket or treasure on the chess table. It was then and only then that the Cursed Captain was able to win the Chess game. Forward they walked, singing along to that tune – can’t blame them, aye? — until they reached a cavern with a path leading upward. But first, they went left though a waterfall to find a skeleton holding onto an oar in a broken rowboat.
