Many disposal systems come with their own litter scoop, but if you have a favorite litter scoop, you might want to investigate how it will work with your chosen disposal system first. For example, we love the DurAnimals DuraScoop (that’s why we named it our favorite cat litter scoop), but its wide shovel is probably too large to work well with the narrow trap door on the Modkat Litter Keeper, for example. It also is unlikely to fit into the holder on the side of the Litter Genie. This typically isn’t a dealbreaker—we simply keep our preferred scoop hanging on a nearby wall hook—but if you want to keep your litter system completely integrated, then it might be better to opt for a disposal system with a hook that can fit almost any scoop, like that found on the Litter Champ or the Litter Keeper. These unscented plastic bags are designed to serve as an odor shield between your garbage and your living space. Each bag is easy to dispense from the cardboard container and designed to be tied up at the ends. They are similar in concept to the poop bags dog owners carry around, but they are not on a roll and they are larger to accommodate and contain daily scooping. But the bags do not have separate handles, so you might end up with clump residue at the top of the bag where it needs to be tied—slightly reducing the odor containing capability and intention of the bag. The litter area inside also has a mat that allows you to dump out extra litter. Inside, it can fit litter boxes under 17.5 by 29.4 inches. The rattan material is lightweight, making the whole table only weigh 12 pounds. Of course, cats love scratching rattan, so this enclosure is likely to show some wear and tear over time. A good waste disposal system needs to be able to hold several days of litter scooping, hide scents, and be easy to use. The Litter Genie has a useful capacity, is excellent at managing scents, and is simple to use—once you get used to its unique system. You’re done when you cut a hole in the top big enough for your cat and fill it with a few inches of cat litter.
You’ll need to scoop your cat’s litter box regularly, and you may want to top out the box with a cup or two of fresh litter to reach your cat’s preferred depth. Your cat can also sit on top of the enclosure, since the wooden rim around the cabinet's top makes it easy to keep a cat bed in place. However, we still prefer the Litter Genie for two primary reasons. The first is how you scoop litter into each device. The Genie uses a spring-loaded trap door that you open manually from the outside, whereas the Litter Champ uses a weighted door that you press down on with your litter scoop. At first glance this is more convenient, since you don’t have to take a separate action to dump litter off your scoop and into the receptacle. Combined with the foot pedal, this makes the Litter Champ a more hands-free litter scooping process. However, in our experience it takes more effort, since you have to press down the door with the scoop, then shake the cat poop off into the bag. Plus, since you’re pressing the door downward into the bag, it can get messy and difficult once that bag is reasonably full and you’re pushing against a big pile of poop.The most important features for your cat are ventilation and visibility, which might conflict with your desire to disguise your cat litter box inside of a furniture item. Our favorite litter box enclosure, the Furmia, makes ventilation and visibility part of its design cues, integrating it in a way that’s attractive and still looks like modern furniture. Apply a couple of scoops of used cat litter to any areas where your parked automobile could leave oil stains. If any oil from your automobile leaks, the cat litter should be able to absorb it before it reaches the pavement. This will allow you to store litter in a sealed container and scoop enough litter at a time that it won’t take too long to fill up a litter box, but also won’t be too heavy. Another fantastic option to repurpose cat litter is to use it to remove poison ivy from your home. By spreading used cat litter over the weed, you may have greater control over it. You can get several months or more out of a plastic liner, and it’s biodegradable, so you can toss it away and replace it. It’s also ideal for too big cats to fit comfortably into most standard-sized boxes. How Long Can You Store Cat Litter?

Even with one litter box in the household, this container allows you to roll the bin right up to the litter box and simply tilt it to pour the litter in. Less heavy lifting. While we find the Litter Genie to be the most effective litter disposal system overall, there’s no denying that it looks like a flimsy plastic receptacle. What you get is a litter box enclosure with a number of thoughtful features, which won't look out of place wherever you choose to place it. Available in two sizes, this cat litter box enclosure is made entirely of rattan, making it a perfect place for your cat to hang out or just scratch up. The woven rattan design allows for ample light and ventilation. You can also assemble the table to have the entrance on either the right or left side.Each Easy Roll refill is meant to last for as long as six months, with the roll divided into sealed bags with perforated separators—no need for knots. It’s a good idea, but we have concerns about imperfect perforations leading to torn bags and spills. Spilling a bag of cat waste everywhere is something we’d rather not deal with even once, so for now we put more faith in the reliable, proven system in the Litter Genie Plus. This cat litter box enclosure from Honiakaka also comes with a unique interior that combines a soft EVA litter mat that sits on top of a wire grate. This litter mat catches litter off your cat’s feet, where it falls through to a separate litter mat underneath, which can be pulled out and emptied for easy disposal of stray litter. The bag inserts and refills are stored in a ring that sits at the top of the bin. You pull down on a bag and tie a knot in the bottom. The top stays secure in the ring so you can drop waste into the bag without fussing with the opening. When one bag is full, you simply rip the top off, tie a knot in the top and then pull a new bag down and knot the bottom.
Other options are to add a nail or small hook to the wall next to the litter box and hang your scoop. Almost every litter scoop on the market has a hole at the end of the handle or a loop to hang it. If you exercise your imagination, you may come up with many alternatives to the typical plastic box. While scooping litter should be considered a daily task—providing your cat or cats with a place where they can do their business without having to dig around other piles of their own waste—complete litter changes are not needed nearly as often. While full litter change timing can vary from household to household, typically you should be completely refreshing your cat’s litter and cleaning the interior of their litter box about once a month. This will ensure that smells won’t accumulate and that litter will continue to effectively clump and seal in odors. Price – some reviewers felt the price was a little high, but the majority felt it was worth the price.There’s even some chic cat litter box furniture with space inside for an extra bag or two of litter. Overall, the Modkat Litter Keeper occupies a hybrid position between a complete “disposal system” and a receptacle, since you still have to remove and tie off the bags yourself, without the convenience of the extended bags used in the Litter Champ and Litter Genie Plus. But if your litter is in a highly visible spot in your home, then the attractive design may put this one over the top. Not that you really want to “store” used cat litter, but when you’re scooping the litter box once per day (or more), having a way to store the waste until it’s garbage day, will save you trips to the outdoor garbage bin.
