About this deal

I have been on LCHF since reading Gary Taubes book, Why We Get Fat: And What To Do About It in Jan 2012. Frustrated with spiraling healthcare costs related to the treatment of conditions including overweight, obesity, diabetes, atherosclerosis, and heart disease, Dr. Gerber focuses on prevention and treatment programs using low-carb high fat (LCHF), Ancestral, Paleo, and Primal diets to treat and prevent these chronic conditions. He rigorously maintains a database of patients, looking at weight loss and improved cardio-metabolic markers, demonstrating the benefits of these types of diets. p354 "people with verified FH (familial hypercholesterolemia) should discuss PREVENTATIVE treatment options with a specialist in the field" Millions of people have gotten healthy through low-carb plans over the years—and a growing number have discovered the wonderful benefits of ketogenic (Keto) nutrition. Many are confused, though, about how low-carb they should go. Now, Eat Rich, Live Long reveals how mastering the low-carb/Keto spectrum can maximize your weight loss and optimize your health for the long term. And I didn't know much about things like what exactly are HDL & LDL cholesterol and what is insulin and how does it work.

The authors fail to recognize the necessity of statins, niacin and Zetia to treat high CAC score or secondary cardiovascular disease or the very high ApoB of Familial Hypercholesterolemia I am a Fellow and Board Certified in the National Lipid association. The preponderance of excellent random controlled trials, double blinded with large number of people in study for significances validates the rule: the lower the ApoB (lipoprotein particles not cholesterol) the better outcomes in mortality. Part 3 dives deeper in the science behind the LCHF diet and explains how each aspect of it will most likely improve your life. There's a chapter on the importance of insulin, the effects of diet on heart disease and cancer, the details around protein and vitamin ingestion as well as a long-term aspects of maintaining a healthy diet. Dr. Gerber trained at Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia and graduated in 1986. He completed a medical Residency in Family Medicine at Abington Memorial Hospital in 1990 and was board certified in Family Medicine in 1991. Dr. Gerber sits for the Family Medicine re-certification exam every ten years and attends continuing medical education programs on a regular basis. He is Level II certified by the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment to treat work related injuries. Also, it is very amusing to see Ivor, an engineer, teaching most doctors how proper science is made. If you ever heard Ivor talking, you'll know that the book was written by that lovely irish clever jester. Ah! At the end of each chapter there is a short story regarding real doctor Gerber's patients. Inspiring! Nutritional sacred cows are constantly being challenged in the media. How much fat should we eat-and which kinds of fats are best? Which fats can contribute to diabetes, heart disease, and early mortality? Does a high-protein diet increase muscle mass and lead to vigorous health-or can it promote aging, cancer, and early mortality? Which vitamins and minerals should we be taking, if any? How do we change our metabolism so that our bodies burn fat instead of all the sugars we consume? Does intermittent fasting really work? Eat Rich, Live Long lays out the truth based on the latest scientific research, and it will change the way you look at eating. Meanwhile you will lose weight-and look and feel great. Fasting is a draconian measure over the long term. Talk about the amount of willpower needed for that.LDLp or ApoB particles done on advanced lipid testing should also be done at some point to determine if there is discordance. Also important calculations from a common lipid panel is to calculate non-HDLc <80 and remnants <35. Nutritional sacred cows are constantly being challenged in the media. The large number of shrunken fat cells in the reduced obese have a very low leptin level.

Success!

This book is great for the curious and motivated person, but not necessarily scientific-knowledged, who wants to learn and apply low-carb/keto diets for its benefits in treating/reversing metabolic damage caused by Westernised diets.

I watched many of Ivor's videos and just finished reading his new book, “Eat Rich, Live Long”. His and Jeff's book is the most impressive and valuable that I have seen in the field of health assessment and improvement because it not only explains what and when to eat, but the “why”, i.e., the mechanisms behind the great advantages of a low carb diet. As a scientist, I greatly appreciate that you delved so deeply into this topic. I bought multiple copies of your book to give to my Medical Doctor and my friends and family. I have never bought multiple copies of any book before; I think it is that good. Thus if someone has 5% cardiovascular risk and a positive CAC (1 or>), they need to lower their ApoB <80 or LDLp < 1,000. Dr. Jeffry Gerber has no financial ties to pharmaceutical, diagnostics or medical device companies. He has no financial ties to the food industry.
