About this deal

Four Roses Single Barrel solely uses their ‘Mash bill B’ ratio, using a single yeast strain and single barrel for 7-9 years of maturation. It is later chill filtered. The empty Glencairn is a rich and seasoned oak, that is a perfect finish to this four. Very happy. WORTH THE PRICE?

Four Roses Single Barrel Bourbon is the perfect addition to any bar and should serve a variety of palates well. Don’t be scared off of the high-rye nature of its liquid. There is plenty of sweet and fruity notes to love. The bottom line is you don’t have to like rye whiskey to like Four Roses’ most popular mash bill. Final Thoughts Straight Bourbon Whiskey: Bourbon that is stored in charred new oak for at least two years. It can be a blend of multiple straight bourbon whiskeys as long as they're all produced in the same state.

Four Roses 100 Proof Details

Let’s find out what I thought of this bottle by digesting the eloquent words of my Four Roses Single Barrel review (please don’t be disappointed that they are not actually particularly eloquent): About the Distillery The Small Batch Select is part of Four Roses’ permanent product line. With a great price and steady availability, it’d make an excellent gift for any occasion. Containing a unique blend of six bourbon recipes, it would make a great addition to any whisky collection. Comparing Four Roses Single Barrel vs Four Roses Small Batch Select I found this bottle of Four Roses Single Barrel OBSV to be spicier than the Four Roses Small Batch, which I normally find to be a subtle balance of sweet and I often describe as a good beginner bourbon. I’d say a good description for the standard Single Barrel offering, is that it’s the grown-up version of their small batch product. The flavor is fuller, the finish is longer, and yes the price is higher, although justified in this case.

Distillers Description: “This 10 Year 6 Month old Bourbon was bottled exclusively for the Four Roses Gift Shops. This Bourbon has a nose of vibrant baking spice and clove. Flavors of rich Vanilla and candied fruit fade into a long finish of light mint and caramel. Enjoy!” If you’re looking for a light tipple, this bourbon is perfect. Its delicate sweetness and spiciness combine perfectly with brie or camembert cheese, cured meats like prosciutto or salami as well as fresh fruit salads. The complexity of the flavours make it stand out when paired with the right foods! Finish: The high-spice nature of the liquid remains with cinnamon and herbal flavors smoldering on my tongue. Fruity notes like citrus and cherry licorice offer a nice contrast, Tannins remain relatively light. Overall, the finish embodies the qualities the whole sip had – namely spice, fruit and herbal flavors. On the nose, there’s aromas of oak, vanilla and caramel while its taste is enriched with smooth creamy notes of toasted wood and hints of spice. You’ll experience a pleasingly long finish that leaves behind an irresistible flavour combination of dried fruits and vanilla. The wash is then transferred to one of the distillery’s two column stills and heated, causing the alcohol to evaporate, slowly making its way up the still becoming increasingly pure. Reaching the top of the column still, it’s then cooled in a condenser. At this point, the distillate is fairly complete, at around 132 proof, but still requires further purification.

Final Thoughts

In this article, we’ll compare and contrast Four Roses Single Barrel vs Four Roses Small Batch Select to help you decide which one is the best fit for you. The distillation process for the Small Batch Select begins with Four Roses’ two Mashbill B and E recipes. The grains for each recipe are milled into 2 separate mash mixes. Four Roses uses two different mashbills and five different yeast strains to create ten different bourbon recipes. Their standard 100 proof Single Barrel Bourbon uses one recipe, their standard Small Batch blends together four of the recipes, and Small Batch Select blends together six of the recipes. Limited releases and private selections can vary from the standard products, but generally maintain the same number of recipes as their standard counterpart. Taste/Palate: Mild heat & Medium Mouthfeel. Barrel Char hits first. Fruity and Floral hits on the midpalate. Tart Apple, Pear, Apricot, & Herbal Tea.

Mouth Feel: Oily and very soft all throughout the palate. It is the definition of an easy sipper with no surprises. Bourbon is a type of whiskey that needs to meet a few criteria to officially be called "bourbon." First, bourbon can only be made in America, and its grain bill must include at least 51 percent of corn. Bourbon always has to be aged in new charred oak barrels at no more than 125 proof (or 62.5 percent alcohol), and it's not allowed to include any additives or colorings. At a minimum, bourbon must be 80 proof (or 40 percent alcohol), with its mash never allowed to exceed 160 proof (or 80 percent alcohol). For a truly tantalizing pairing, try the Single Barrel whisky with smoked meats. The smokiness of both elements perfectly combine and will make your taste buds sing. From succulent brisket to juicy pork ribs or even fragrant smoked salmon – it’s sure to be a hit at any dinner table.
