About this deal

Remember, there are no hard and fast rules when it comes to composing your shots. Experiment with different techniques and see what works best for you and the scene you are photographing. By incorporating these tips into your photography, you can create stunning and impactful photos even on the gloomiest of days. Post-Processing Techniques for Gloomy Day Photos Stratus clouds are thin, gray or white layers covering the entire sky. These super-thin clouds don't produce much rain or snow yet still manage to keep the weather 'gloomy-looking.' Mid-level clouds form between 6,500 and 20,000 feet. These clouds are often flat and layered because the air at these altitudes doesn't move vertically.

On a sunny day, the sun’s radiation heats the land, which in turn heats the air just above it. This warmed air rises by convection and forms Cumulus. These “fair weather” clouds look like cotton wool. If you look at a sky filled with cumulus, you may notice they have flat bases, which all lie at the same level. At this height, air from ground level has cooled to the dew point. Cumulus clouds do not generally rain – you’re in for fine weather. 2) CumulonimbusPuddles and other reflective surfaces can be great tools for adding depth and intrigue to your compositions. Look for reflective surfaces, such as roadways, buildings or water. Used at the right angle they will produce beautiful reflections. You can also experiment with the angle of your camera to capture the reflection in a unique and interesting way. Try getting low to the ground to capture the reflection from a different perspective. There are some beautiful reflection photos here to trigger some inspiration. Photo by Matthew Henry Another tip is to use a lens hood to protect your lens from raindrops. It will also help reduce lens flare and improve the contrast of your images. Photo by Filip Zrnzević Selecting the Best Lenses for Low Light Conditions Post-processing techniques can help you enhance your images and bring out the best in them. Here are some methods to try: Enhancing Contrast and Saturation As always, this is not a comprehensive list, and I might add to it. My list will probably make you think of other possibilities, too. Bookmark or pin it for future writing reference! While they do not produce heavy rain, they can morph into nimbostratus clouds (below), leading to rain or snow. They usually form when a layer of cirrostratus cloud descends from a higher level.

Altocumulus clouds appear lower than cirrus clouds but are still relatively higher than low-level clouds. These clouds are usually made of liquid water but may contain some ice crystals. They form in settled weather and are not generally responsible for producing rain. They come in different forms but mostly appear like rounded masses. These clouds may be made of liquid water droplets, ice crystals, or a combination of the two, including supercooled droplets (i.e., liquid droplets whose temperatures are below freezing). This depends on the altitude, the season, and the vertical temperature structure they form in. During a rainy day, you will need to protect your camera and equipment from water damage. It is recommended to invest in weather-sealed equipment and covers to avoid water damage. If you don’t have weather-sealed equipment, consider carrying a waterproof camera bag or umbrella to help protect your gear. If it is cold and rainy, you can get a few more tips on how to protect your gear here. Set The Perfect Mood: Features seven changeable LED colors so you can set the perfect mood in your space, depending on your state of mind. Snuggle Into Deep Sleep Within Minutes! Cirrus clouds are thin, feathery, wispy, and hair-like. These clouds are mostly comprised of ice crystals. The wind currents twist and spread these ice crystals into delicate strands. Due to this, when you look at these clouds from below, they appear to have no structure.

4) Stratus

Cirrostratus clouds are delicate, white clouds. These clouds appear like a veil covering the entire sky. These clouds are common in winter, often predicting rain or snow within 24 hours. They often produce a halo around the Sun or the Moon, making the environment somewhat 'mysterious-looking.' They form as a result of slowly rising air, and are usually generated at the forefront of frontal weather systems. They are technically a variant of stratocumulus, altocumulus, or cirrocumulus clouds. Why are clouds important? On a sunny day, photographers often seek out the perfect light conditions, but on a gloomy day, you should take advantage of the soft and diffused light that can create a unique atmosphere in your images. The low light conditions of a cloudy day can create a soft and even light that is perfect for capturing portraits or still life images. Lenticular clouds are lentil or almond-shaped type of orographic cloud that forms in the lower to middle troposphere. These clouds resemble flying saucers or spaceships and often form when the wind blows over a large object, like a mountain. On the ground, they can signal very strong winds in one place, even though the air only a few hundred feet or meters away is still. Don’t let a gloomy day discourage you from following your passion for photography. Instead, view it as an opportunity to capture unique and interesting images. With the right gear, composition, and post-processing techniques you will be able to create amazing photos. Remember to experiment, have fun, and enjoy the beauty of a gloomy day!

Aircraft condensation trails, or contrails, are made by high-flying airplanes. These clouds appear high in the troposphere, where aircraft and jets tend to fly. They are a unique homogenitus (human-induced) cloud made with water droplets condensed from the water vapor in the jet engine's exhaust. Cumulonimbus clouds are dense and heavy. These clouds appear on hot days when warm and wet air rises high in the sky. They look like tall mountains or vertical towers when observed from far away. The energy balance, climate, and weather of Earth are all significantly influenced by clouds. The primary factor controlling the planet's average temperature is clouds.

Although there are typically spaces between them ( honeycomb-looking), they can also be connected. Additionally, stratocumulus clouds usually form when a stratus cloud layer breaks up.
