About this deal

Here are the 23 different types of witchcraft that pagans practice, complete with descriptions about their magical preferences and how they raise energy. Hedge witches don’t have to use mind altering substances, although some do. Even incense or spiritual tea can help to open you up spiritually.

Samhain/Hallowe’en (October 31st) is the time when we can most easily commune with those among the dead whom we have loved and also honour the ancestors who lived too long ago for us to have known them. Plus, we can bless the unborn – the generations who are yet to come. Hedge witches aren’t organized, so they don’t have leaders or central organizations. They do tend to follow certain traditions, but it’s hard to say for sure how widespread these traditions are. While some hedge witches work mostly on their own, others like to join groups and work as part of an organization. What Do Hedge Witches Do? Intellectually and spiritually open doctors, nurses, veterinarians, and other western medicine or support therapy practitioners may be drawn to trading information with a Hedge Witch. Animals, plant spirits, and nature spirits are all important to the hedge witch. These beings bridge the gap between the physical world and spiritual realms. Common Hedge Witch PracticesGreen witches are also called garden witches or forest witches. They are very connected to the earth and draw their magic from the natural world and specifically from earthly elements.

THE WAY INTO FAERIE looks at what is on the far side of the hedge – the Otherworldly dimension – and at who lives there. It explains how we may relate to ancestral spirits and non-carnate species (known as faeries) as well as to nature spirits. This book is written from the point of view of a natural psychic – a fey person – rather than specifically a hedge witch. It is about our Pagan ancestors’ beliefs concerning the Dead and the faerie races and is based on a great deal of research. However, it is not scholarly but experiential and, I hope, also inspirational. In this book there are fictional sections interspersed with non-fiction and memoir. The fictional bits contain characters, an older woman and her apprentice, who are hedge witches. (Their male equivalents are described as well.) Speaking of the afterlife, your loved ones and friends come to you when they need comfort during times of great transition. Like death. Like pregnancy and childbirth. You seem to have a peaceful countenance and draw people to you that need advice during these scary times of life. Perhaps you’re even in the medical field and work in labor and delivery OR hospice. 16. You can find lost objects with ease At Beltaine, find a hawthorn tree or have a sprig of it in the house. Bless the tree and all its species with increased abundance, good health and good fortune. If outdoors, pour out an offering at the base of the tree – spring water (but not if bought in a plastic bottle) or unsweetened apple juice. Over time, the term “hedge witch” came to be used for anyone who practiced magic. By the 19th century, the term had been adopted by some Wiccans, and it was used to refer to a person who was unable to join a coven. Eventually, the term was used more broadly to refer to anyone who practiced folk magic, whether or not they were part of a larger group. What Do Hedge Witches Believe? This type of witch finds himself or herself longing to “go home” and be among the stars. Maybe you find the starseed concept resonates with you deeply. Maybe you have a lifelong addiction to astrology, astronomy, and all things aeronautics. If you find you don’t care about what happens here on earth as much as you do the planetary rotations, comets, and other galaxies, then you are a cosmic witch. 18. Grey Witch

And light a third candle to welcome the kindly dead, saying ‘May this flame be seen in the Otherworld as it is in this World.’ This is essential, as you have no one else to push you into learning new things and trying out new experiences. Your study and your practice are entirely self-directed, and so alongside the desire to try new things, a little discipline also comes in handy. You can expect private sessions, customized spells that I'll create just for you, and free consultations before and after spell casting. You can also read hundreds of different testimonials that you can find at each spell. There are many, many ways to practice hedge magic and hedgerow spirituality now in the present day and to reinterpret the themes and ideas. In my own work, they can be blended with such things as natural magic, Wicca, Green/environmental spirituality and faerie lore. (We may work alone but that does not mean that we are uninfluenced by other approaches and styles.) For me, hedge witchery and hedge priest/esscraft must be creative, aligned with the times that we live in, exploratory, healing and, as far as possible, original. Therefore, dear visitor, if you proceed, your hedge magic and spirituality will not be like exactly like mine because your own individual style will emerge with experience. After all, you are a free spirit. This is an inspiring book. It is rich with the recent history of magic, with especial reference to witchcraft and Goddess worship, as well as being rooted in folklore. The author is herself an experienced sea witch and priestess. She guides the reader into the magic and spirituality of communion with sea tides and sea Goddesses and Gods – in rites that seem simple but are profound. This book is entirely grounded in the natural world – the tides of Moon and ocean, the scent of a sea wind, the overwhelming rush of the incoming tide in the Bristol Channel, the sea caves and cliffs of Devon and Cornwall, the island of Anglesey.

Hedge Witch in the Urban Jungle

Most hedge witches work alone, and they prefer it that way. There is time and space to truly hear and connect with your local environment, without interference. This is not to say that hedge witches are hermits—far from it. They simply prefer to do their work in their own, guided by their own studies and the experiences of those they have met in the Otherworld. Spiritually, hedgewitches vary greatly and it largely depends on the individual. Many use their heritage or pull from more formal practices. However, many hedgewitches, like myself, have little interest in the religious and ceremonial aspects commonly found in covens and traditional witchcraft. They are less likely to perform scripted magical workings, preferring to follow their instincts. For the Hedgewitch, their normal life is also their magical one.
