Friends are all getting together on Friday night. You are recently a widow and not part of a couple anymore. You were invited so the question is, should you stay or should you go now? Our morning involved a scenic sailing with commentary from our program director. At 12:30 we arrived after lunch and boarded buses to Melk Abbey, the only excursion this day. We broke into small groups and a guide walked us through rooms filled with artifacts and medieval manuscripts. The view from the terrace of the valley and the Danube river is breathtaking and we enjoyed wandering through the colorful church and wooded gardens before leaving the Abbey and joining the bus in a new location up the river. This evening our director provided us with a German language lesson followed by music from the onboard musician. Day 6 – Passau – Germany
There was even a teacher who came to the district already divorced for over 5 years who was called Mrs.Today was one of the longest days at sea since we did not arrive in Vienna until 7:00 pm. The scenic river ride, meals and presentation on coffee and the coffee houses of Vienna kept us entertained. Kristin, it’s so lovely to read you have been on a few dates and enjoyed yourself. It doesn’t diminish the love you shared with your husband, that will always be there it simply means you are healing and it’s good to fill yourself up. I started doing things on my own, which was hard at first, but I am starting to be comfortable with my own company and I am amazed at the people I have met just being out and about. Whatever I was invited to, I said yes, but always drove myself so I could leave if/when I needed to. Our ship arrived in Koblenz at 2:30 for a tour of the inside of Marksburg Castle. After resting up, we rallied for dinner and a delightful cake with the waitstaff singing “Let me call you sweetheart” at our table for our 4 year anniversary thanks to the request of our new friends. The staff on Viking and the people you meet along the way really make this trip so good. Day 13 – Cologne – Germany
Viking is a brand we have heard over here in the states as a luxury river and ocean cruise line that caters to adults as the minimum age on board is 18 years old. This adult only business appealed to us as empty nesters and having experienced crowded pool areas filled with happy kids, was something I really looked forward to. Many cruises are available on European rivers, but this 15 Day Grand European Viking Tour seemed to have everything we wanted. Wasn't sure if I would enjoy this one as much as I really disliked Patricia Carey in the previous two books in this series. However, she eventually grew on me, when she began to lose her airs and graces and was more respectful to people, she was a lot more likeable. Well, this can certainly be a touchy subject. Like most everything after the loss of a spouse, the decision on which name you would like to be referred to is an important choice for each woman. I totally agree with this. I had a friend who was recently widowed and she felt guilty going out. Just shared this post with her. new friends male and female and started writing short stories. I am beginning a widow support group. I see so many struggling with their new life. I see this time as a new beginning for myself . My hope is to guide and support other women to learn of the comfort of our Heavenly Father and the help of other widows and their coping skills.If you stay home, it is safe. You can be sad and watch a T.V. show. Start a new binge watching marathon. You could eat and drink and stay in your pajamas and cuddle a pet or a pillow. You could think about your dead spouse and do some crying. Or maybe some screaming. We enjoyed our final day in Europe walking around the beautiful canal streets and dodging the 600,000 bicyclists with a delicious dinner near our hotel. The exact same thing happened to me in my small school district. I was married for 26 years and taught as Mrs. F for the entire time. I was very hurt when all of a sudden, I was being referred to as Ms. F. Before the trip, Viking sends you information about the different shore excursions. Each day one guided tour is included but you do have the option to sign up for additional excursions for an additional cost. Day -1 – Budapest
All I can say is its flippin’ difficult. Ive been widowed nearly 10 years. I was 57 when my husband died and plunged into ‘widow city’. This means your peers become almost exclusively older women – because before – nearly all my peers still had their partners. Its a very partnercentric world out there. You feel missed out of so many things. And then what… I wonder how many women change their names again? I would feel bad changing my name again, but if you are marrying someone else, isn’t that the right thing to do?I hope people realize we were strong because we had no choice. I loved my husband and gave my all to help him. I say all this because this strength came from Christ. He brought us both through this valley of the shadow of death. Anyway, crisis averted. One thing this whole tragedy has taught me is that so many things are really not a big deal. If something bothers you, find a way to fix it. Nothing is as bad as finding out your husband is dead.
The dark streets of London are the perfect place to hide from the world, and Patricia makes her living singing on the streets. But the city is a dangerous place. I was in a very good marriage for 26 years. I liked being married.It wasn’t always easy but we worked through the tough times and learned to love and appreciate each other more and more as the years went on. We dined for lunch in the Ratskeller but only had a choice of two meals. I would rather have found a better place to eat like the famous Hofbrau house that we did walk through on our tour – if I only knew then… For the amount of money we spent on this excursion, the meal should have been better. After lunch, we had free time, but since it was Sunday the stores were all closed. This is a law in Germany. Turns out it was a huge Pride festival with bands and DJs on every street, lots of people in rainbow colored outfits and just a big old party. Fun to witness as well. Day 8 – Nuremberg – Germany My last trip to central Europe was in 1984 and certain areas were off-limits because they were communist and who would want to go there even if you were allowed. But over the years I kept hearing about the fairy tale awe of Prague with its castle, bridges, history and charm. Since the Viking Grand European cruise we scheduled started in Budapest and ended in Amsterdam I made the decision to add the 3 day extension to our trip before the cruise and we were not disappointed! I did not know a thing about Bridge, but it was another social thing to do every Wednesday night and fun to learn something new. After that a few of us joined a program at the local library to learn how to play Mahjong. I’m going to need a lot more lessons to get the hang of that game. Get a Puppy
