Fully trained assistance dogs are welcome, although, access is restricted in a few areas* due to the sensitive nature of our animals. Please note, we do not accept assistance dogs and puppies in training. You will need to provide proof of full vaccinations and training before entering the zoo. Look for someone qualified: You need someone who knows what they’re doing, so look for a local dog walker with plenty of hands-on experience and, ideally, a relevant qualification. Age plays a role in running ability, as well. Puppies shouldn’t be running until their bodies are fully developed. Older dogs may not be able to run like they used to and may do better with lower intensity sports (e.g. nose work, walking, etc.). I wouldn't consider myself a bike 'purist' either. I just wanted an alternative to car transportation as our family grew (kids and dogs both!). The Bunch Bike has been such a practical and joyful addition to our family life the last 6 years, I can't imagine doing it any other way.
If you are struggling to get your dog moving forward, try throwing a ball or treats in front of your dog to encourage them forward. My personal experience with the K9 has been with my two 80 pound labs who fit the bike comfortably and I haven't experienced the same problem of them not being able to turn around, but I could see how that might be an issue with handicapped 100 pound dogs. Side entry is a good idea though and something we'll consider for future designs. If you are visiting on a quiet day, for example outside of school holidays, most of the zoo is quiet. Although, you may come across the occasional group of school children.
