About this deal

Overall, it was a sweet RomCom with great banter, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to read and review!

Turns out he’s Matteo, the grumpy son of the professor who is hosting the students from New York so they’re staying in the same place. Her school (clearly it is FIT but it is never named) has a competition where the top 3 fashion design students go to Rome and intern at a top fashion house and get advice and ideas for creating a 5 piece mini-collection where one will be named the winner. Still, this was a lot of fun, and neither of the MCs give up everything for one another, instead they pledge to prioritize their relationship alongside their demanding careers and their friends and families. So I’m surprised and happy to say I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a kind of Devil Wears Prada-esque fashion story set in Italy, with a slew of characters to fall in love with. With her thirties rapidly approaching and a mountain of student debt looming over her, Violet Luciano’s dream of finishing design school and working in fashion has cost her everything.

When Violet dumps coffee ☕️ all over him and his laptop 💻… well she learned just how grumpy 😠 and snarky Matt could be. Their animosity (and undeniable chemistry) grows as together they’re forced to face a summer of chic parties, adventures through Rome and sharing a home…with the person they can’t stand the most. I loved Violet immediately and despite Matt's grumpy demeanor, his witty sarcasm had me wrapped around his finger. Bromley has written a wonderfully engaging novel with snappy narration from Winnie, and she deftly balances moments of humor with depth by providing her characters with deep backstories and complicated emotions.

Violet is a 29 year-old design student from New York City, deeply in debt and plagued by self-doubt, who has landed a coveted internship in Rome that will have her competing with two classmates for a job at a New York fashion label that might be her only chance to make a go of a career in fashion.

Unfortunately, on her first day, her coffee run turns into a disastrous meeting with a cute guy - she ends up destroying a brooding stranger's laptop. Then she realizes this man is not a stranger - he's the sulking son of a professor and he lives a few feet away from her in the same apartment. Instead, you find yourself in the role of a simple onlooker/observer — completely detached from the events transpiring in the café. Additionally, Bromley really transports the reader to Rome with vivid descriptions of food, fashion, culture and scenery.

The book is told entirely from her perspective, which I thought worked quite well for the storyline, and she grows quite a bit by the novel's end. But when a coffee run goes wrong and Violet accidentally destroys a stranger’s laptop, all of the apology Americanos in the world won’t help her. I’ll start by admitting that I binged this book within 24 hours, and I would do it again in a heartbeat. I love being a witness not only to Violet's love story but also her journey to find out what she truly wants to do in her life! Because it turns out that the man from the café is Matteo, her professor’s eternally grumpy son, who thinks she’s a clumsy American…and maybe a stalker.

Monaghan does a wonderful job of alternating between past and present so we can witness the moving story of Sam and Wyatt when they first met, became friends, and then fell in love and then see them reconnect as adults and realize that they still have very strong feelings for one another. To me it felt like it moved too quickly, but given that Violet was only in Rome for 4 weeks, it makes sense that the timeline would have to be a bit more compressed. We also use different external services like Google Webfonts, Google Maps, and external Video providers. the book was fun to read and it had a cutr story, there some over the top scenes which made me laugh out loud ( Violette prank was hilarious) but there were scenes I felt unnecessary drama . Also big points for the Capri set scenes which were so breezy and satisfying and made me start looking at fights and hotels for vacation next year.

Featuring a poignant second chance romance as well as a moving journey of personal discovery , Same Time Next Summer is a read that will appeal to so many readers. Pair with a glass of Prosecco or an aperol spritz and a plate of pasta, and you’ll have the perfect reading experience. Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early digital copy in exchange for my honest review!
