About this deal

They capture that CO2 and sell it to manufacturers to put into CO2 canisters, to make your beer or champagne fizzy or in canned soda etc. Obviously with water it’s much harder to do that. So if your bottled water is being transported, even from somewhere comparatively close like the Highlands of Scotland, then that’s adding a lot to the carbon footprint of that bottle of refreshment you have in your fridge. Where does the CO2 in the refills come from?

The Crystal has a funky, geometric design and will look fabulous in a modern kitchen. The dishwasher-safe bottles are elegant, and as they're made of glass they are lovely to drink out of. We have an Aarke because it looks nicer, but also because it does not use power. The SodaStream bottles fit the Aarke which slightly brings down some of the cost.” (Suggested by Mumsnet user schoggiweggli) I was looking into this myself when I stumbled across the article, But I found slightly different prices that will almost break-even. Thanks for your comment and questions Jo. That’s interesting about the upgrade from Spirit to Crystal. The SodaStream Genesis is more expensive than the Fountain Jet. Its sleeker design does not justify its price difference. If you are the kind of person who cares about the design, you will still be happy with the Genesis since it has the same functionality as the Fountain Jet.Gently roll the SodaStream bottle to incorporate the flavorings fully. Do not shake, as this risks the bottle from exploding. If you make your own, you can create the healthiest version, which is to use glucose or dextrose as your sugar, eliminating both fructose and artificial sweeteners. Your childrens’ livers will thank you. There is also a standard measurement of concentrated syrup used for every liter. If you add more, the drink may lose carbonation because it may fizz up. For every 170ml of sparkling water , use 30ml of syrup. For 1L of sparkling water, add about 176ml or 12 tbsp of syrup. Many people now buy water carbonators purely because it saves on the plastic waste their home produces. Some models are also considered to be things of beauty, so they take pride of place on the curated surfaces of house-proud consumers all over the world. Where to buy SodaStream flavours

SodaStream is the brand that pioneered sparkling water makers in the 1970s. Thanks to their continuing popularity, the term ‘SodaStream’ is sometimes used to describe the many other water carbonators on the market, such as Aarke and Drinkmate. Yes of course those gas canisters have to be shipped too – but with one canister making around 60 litres of fizzy liquid it’s much more cost effective (and therefore damaging to the environment) to ship one of those than 60 litres of anything. We've had ours for a few years now, and I love it. I got it so that we could cut right down on the amount of plastic we were buying - we were going through at least four two-litre bottles of fizzy water a week, sometimes double that if it was hot. I bought the Crystal option which comes with glass bottles. I bought four extra bottles, so in our fridge we always have six 600ml bottles of fizzy water.” (Recommended by Mumsnet user BIWI) The SodaStream Genesis is one of the most affordable soda makers with a sleek, lightweight, and compact design. Creating sparkling drinks in under 30 seconds, this SodaStream model doesn’t require electricity nor batteries, so you can easily bring it anywhere.Much as the harder plastic bottles (some models use glass bottles) are more hard wearing the will need replacing, eventually. Since the Fountain Jet is cheaper, it is more valuable with its compatibility with larger CO2 canisters. If you are looking for a sparkling water maker, the Fountain Jet is a great way of introducing yourself to the sparkling water world.

Up until this point, the Genesis and Fountain Jet are tied. The Genesis has a better design, while the Fountain Jet has better CO2 carbonator compatibility. Their price difference is the ultimate deciding factor. Be the change: Reduce your plastic waste as our fizzy water maker could save you up to 1,282 single-use plastic bottles over 4 years The cheapest Soda Stream on the UK market at present is the Spirit which comes with one cylinder of gas (which makes 60 litres of carbonated water) and a 1 litre drink bottle. In terms of being kind to the environment, the SodaStream Crystal is one of the best fizzy water makers UK retailers sell. Why? It comes with durable and sleek glass bottles rather than plastic, a fantastic feature for consumers trying to minimise the amount of plastic in their lives. After you’ve cleaned every SodaStream Genesis component, let them air dry, then store them in a safe and secure place, such as a cabinet or the countertop.
