About this deal

I was wrong. We do have a handset: Calisto 240. I would still urge you to trial a few headsets though too.

For example, I'd quite like a USB handset to sling in my laptop bag so I can use my softphone from wherever (and look like I'm using a 1980s bag phone). I'm not sure a headset would survive the abuse of my bag! I'll give them a go, but I thought there must be a good quality basic handset somewhere on the market! Can be Used as a Microphone/Speaker with all PC based Softphones such as Skype, Google Chat, Google+, MSN, ICQ, X-Lite, Dialpad, Net2phone and more The reason for handset rather than headset is that the users in question are used to using one. They don't spend hours every day on phone calls, and don't want to be taking a headset on and off all the time. The Futiro Luma might work - it looks like a standard USB audio device. I would prefer something of Plantronics quality though :) Plantronics make the Calisto240: http://www.plantronics.com/uk/product/calisto-240 Opens a new window The Digitus USB Handset DA-70772 is designed to provide high quality voice. It can work with all PC based softphone applications, such as Skype, MSN, Yahoo Message, Xten, Dialpad, MediaRing, Net2phone, etc. Simply plug it into your PC's USB port and you can make phone calls solely from one handy USB Handset and not from complex external speakers and microphones. Features which looks good, but costs as much as a desk phone. Do you know what software you will be using to make the calls? Is there a reason why it has to be a handset as that seems to put the price up alot. Also have you tried alibaba? If you are getting alot of these phones (50+) then that would be a good place to look, you usually dont get the plantronics logo etc but they are the same underneath as they are mainly straight buys from chinese/japanese manufacturers.

Opens a new windowThe only handsets I can seem to find are either cheap looking 'Skype' handsets, or cost as much as a simple desk phone (e.g. Yealink T22). I've seen that - the problem is that it's as expensive as a basic Yealink desk phone, presumably because it has a full keypad and display. I wonder if there would be a market for something more basic. Plantronics make the Calisto240: http:/ Opens a new window / www.plantronics.com/ uk/ product/ calisto-240
