About this deal

This is an easy solution when you have a small craft that needs some spray paint, or a large piece of furniture that will require days of spraying finishes. Just remember to plan your paint tent around good light and good ventilation.

Paint the front part of the tent white. Leave the door unpainted. Also, leave a small gap from the front of the tent to the side of the tent (the line that divides those two parts).Another good reason to paint a tent is to protect it from the elements. For instance, if camping in an area that rains often, painting the tent helps keep it dry. Moreover, painting a tent helps to keep it in usable condition for a longer period of time. It is a way of maintaining it so it increases its usability. Tent Painting Begin painting using a brush, sponge, or roller, depending on your preference and the painting techniques you want to employ. To make the lights look bright, use your round brush and titanium white to paint a small white circle in the center of each of the lights. This will make it look like the lights are glowing bright. Don’t cover all of the yellow with the white, just paint a small white circle inside the yellow circle. 12. Paint Moon (optional) Some paints might seal the pores of your tent’s fabric, making it difficult for water to escape, while others may not adhere well to waterproofed surfaces. While nylon is not as porous as canvas, it can still be painted with the right techniques and products designed specifically for non-porous materials.

When selecting paints, you have various options such as acrylic paint, latex paint, and spray paint. Painter’s tape can be used as a helpful tool to create clean lines or protect specific areas from getting painted unintentionally. A sealant or waterproofing spraySome types of paints contain harmful or volatile chemicals. Not only could these harm the structural integrity of the fabric but they may also pose hazards for the health of the tent’s inhabitants. After all, you’re going to spend days living and sleeping inside a closed tent, and breathing in toxic fumes can cause immense damage to your health. If you do make more edits to the paint job then you will need to leave the tent out for another few hours to dry. This will ensure that the wet paint does not rub onto the dried paint and ruin all your hard work. Maintenance Tips Latex paint has an advantage over acrylic in that it dries at a faster rate. So, if your camping trip is coming soon and you want to paint your tent before then, latex paint is a good option. Step 2: The Right Equipment Just in case you do not have the budget for buying, you can consider building a paint booth in a DIY way. Start by marking where the bottom of the tent will be. This is about 1.25″ from the bottom of the canvas (if you are using an 11 x 14 canvas). Draw a horizontal line that is about 6.5″ wide and centered. This will be the bottom line of the tent (the tent’s width). Then make a second mark about 3″ from that bottom line. This will be the height of the tent.

For smaller projects, a table inside the tent area with the drop cloth wall also covering the table works great. Here I’ve also added binder clips on the corners and front to create a tighter tent area to confine the overspray even more. Hold the spray can 8 to 10 inches away from the tent surface, applying paint in sweeping strokes from top to bottom. While not all paints provide waterproofing properties on their own, they can serve as a base layer that enhances the effectiveness of specialized waterproof coatings applied afterward. You can use paper and pencil, or try using a tablet or computer if you’re more comfortable with digital drawing. It works well on various tent materials, and you can easily layer it for different shades or textures. When it comes to painting tents, it’s important to consider the type of material your tent is made from. Different materials have varying levels of suitability for painting. Let’s explore the types of tents that are possible to paint:

Then, if necessary, repaint some of the foliage on the top of the trees to make it look like they are overlapping parts of the moon. 13. Paint more stars with paint pen (optional detail) Wipe your 12 bright brush off. Then load it into the cadmium red light hue (orange). Paint diagonal strokes starting at the top of the tent. We use our hobby/storage room for spray paint projects. It’s a low ceiling with exposed rafters, so in this case the white plastic drywall strips are screwed directly into the rafters. And I placed several rows so I can easily adjust the size of the paint tent to the size of the project. Take breaks during the process to prevent fatigue, allowing you to maintain better control over brush strokes. Proper use of rollers or brushes may require some skill. You should strive to go in one direction so the brush strokes are less visible. Rollers can be used on the larger areas to be covered. To avoid this issue, try using a paint specifically designed for outdoor fabrics, like those used in tents.
