About this deal

Eric Vaughn is a hairstylist based in Houston, TX, owner of REV Hair Salon, and master artistic educator. Vaughn contributed to Cosmo recently about the best way to use hair rollers.

To ensure your hair maintains its shape all day long, do not take the curlers out prematurely. This is the most common mistake people make, and it's the difference between hair that falls flat and hair that holds its shape. "Leave the rollers in for a minimum of 20 minutes, and a maximum of 60 minutes," says Melendez, adding that the hair should be cool to the touch before removing the rollers, as that's an indicator that the hair is properly set. For straighter hair types: Spritz a lightweight or volumizing heat protectant (try Bumble and Bumble Invisible Oil or Amika Brooklyn Bombshell Blowout Spray) through damp hair to protect your hair from heat styling without weighing it down. If your hair can’t hold a curl, rake a volumizing mousse (I love Oribe Grandiose or Herbal Essences Volumizing Hair Mousse) through your damp hair before rough-drying your hair (for texture) or blow-drying it straight (for smoother hot-roller curls). When did finding the best curling wand get so damn confusing? There are countless styles of tongs out there and they all give different curls; from tightly defined ringlets to loose beachy waves. But how do you know which shape wand will work for you?

Hair Dryers

Our range of men’s shavers and trimmers include top quality items from Remington - and we also offer elegant and effective lady shavers from Soft & Silky in either pink or purple. Straighteners Joseph Maineis a celebrity stylist, the artistic director of Color Wow Hair, and the founder of Trademark Beauty. Maine accommodates clientele in both Los Angeles, CA, and New York, NY. I spoke to Maine previously about velcro hair rollers.

If the vibe you're going for is more of a defined curl moment rather than soft and bouncy, you need to use smaller hot rollers. "The smaller the [rollers] are, the more curl they're going to leave in your hair," Maine has told Cosmo. Each hot roller in this set of nine is 1 inch in diameter, making them small enough to create a defined curl. You can either let this set for two days, or cheat the time lapse by sitting under a hooded dryer for an hour (I know, it kinda ruins the whole heatless aspect, but it's less damaging than applying direct heat to your hair). Make sure you allow your hair to cool before removing the pins. Since these curls are so small, there’s no reason to rake through with your fingers. Instead, try to avoid touching them as much as possible, and smooth any flyaways with a light misting of oil spray. Unwanted Food or Drink Products - Once supply conditions are broken, there are a number of factors outside of our control that can affect the quality of a product. Therefore perishable goods such as food and drink cannot be returned.Heated rollers are much cooler in temperature compared to curlers – which can reach 220 degrees – so you can keep them in your hair for longer. Overall, limit to 15 mins max, so you don’t end up frying your strands. Are heated rollers better than hair straighteners? The latest however, might just be my favourite because a) it seems like it should be a joke but then plot twist b) it seems to give the best curls I've ever seen. Andrés Melendez is a colorist at Whip Salon in Westport, CT, and at the Benjamin Salon in New York, NY. Melendez splits his time accommodating clientele along the East Coast, NY, CT, and FL. So without further ado, let's dive into the look and the tool that defined arguably the best decade. Here are 13 of the best hair rollers for bouncy curls. What type of hair rollers are best?

Next, you want to decide if you want a classic curling iron with a spring clamp, a marcel iron, or a curling wand. Not only does the type of curling iron change the way you hold and maneuver it, but it also affects the end results of your curls. “I love a curling wand for a beachy, messy look, and the iron for a perfect curl shape and hold.” says Tamika Gibson, hairstylist and wig expert. “A wand is great for looser curls but doesn't give the same hold or structure as an iron." Of all the curling irons and wands I’ve tested, my favorite is the Conair Double Ceramic 1-inch Curling Wand for how long my curls last and how simple it is to use.Run a volumising mousse or spray into your dry lengths before going in with the rollers – this adds more va-va-voom to the finished look, especially if you have fine hair. As natural as it feels to start rolling from the ends, that’s a big no-no: it can cause wonkiness which isn’t the vibe. The sleek platform design only heats the rollers, meaning your fingers won't get burned every time you reach for a roller. They take two to three minutes to reach the set temperature—as indicated by the LED light—and will hold the heat for 15 minutes once they're in your hair. Hairstylist Eric Vaughn has told Cosmothat steam rollers are "very similar to hot rollers, but use a different heat source." Vaughn also noted that steam rollers typically tend to be a gentler heat source for the hair. Due to moisture provided by the steam, these rollers are a great option for those with dry, damaged, and/or tightly coiled hair.

Tech has been tech-ing the past few years, as I’ve seen an influx of cool new options, like hot-air tools, multiple barrel systems, and automatic rotating features that help me get any type of curls or waves you want. Of course, I tested ‘em all for you and compiled my favorites. But to help you figure out which hot tool best suits your needs, I enlisted the help of four hairstylists ( Tamika Gibson, Priscilla Valles, Joseph Maine, and Amy Abramite) for all the details on choosing the best curling iron for you: What to look for in a curling iron, what works best for your hair, and even what size barrel creates the hairstyle you want. With brands like Dyson and ghd and Babyliss ditching the wires, we're starting to see other brands follow suit - meaning it's only a matter of time before cord-free styling becomes the norm. Yes! As the name implies, heatless hair rollers and curlers are specifically designed to work their magic *without* exposing your hair to heat. They’re a great option for anyone looking to avoid the potentially damaging effect of hot tools, like flat irons or t hree barrel wavers. These hair rollers and heatless hair ribbons are a popular choice for setting spiraled styles and adding voluminous movement to your hair. For reasons of hygiene and safety, personal grooming products, cosmetics or items of intimate clothing cannot be returned.Hot rollers aren't necessarily better for your hair than curling irons— there are pros and cons to each, and it ultimately comes down to personal preference. Curling irons typically reach a higher temperature, making them more likely to cause damage via heat. However, although hot rollers don't reach as high of temps, they're still a form of heat styling and can also cause breakage due to the actual rolling process. To help mitigate damage, always spritz on a heat protectant first and prep your hair with moisturizing formulas to keep it from drying out as easily from the heat. Think about what styles you want to achieve with your hair-dryer brush, like a smooth blowout, major volume, or fluffy bangs. For bangs, you might want a round-brush style that's smaller in width (think around an inch) to help style short hairs. Volume, though, will require a wider round brush (between 1.5 and 2 inches). Meanwhile, "an iron allows for a sturdier, tighter curl, which is why looser curls and waves are a bit harder to achieve with it,” says Gibson. Which is why reviewers overall loved the Beachwaver Curling Iron for giving them long-lasting, beachy waves. And if you're deciding between a spring iron vs. a marcel (like the Harry Josh Pro Tools 3-in-1 Ceramic Curling Iron) they give pretty similar results, says Maine, but the main difference is how you hold and clamp the curl. If you're a beginner, go for a spring clamp or wand. I've been using hair straighteners since I was about 13-years-old (when I convinced my mum to buy me a somewhat clunky pair of Toni & Guys from our local Superdrug)... Thankfully, hair tools have come a long way since then, and nowadays they have all kinds of fancy tech built in. And one such innovation? Cordless hair straighteners. Typically a little pricier than your standard straightener, Cyber Monday is a great time to snap up a quality pair. While you can’t fault their seriously impressive results, anyone who uses traditional rollers will know that waiting for them to set is not so sexy. So, cue the next step up: heated rollers. They certainly aren’t a new trend, but they have stood the test of time, thanks to their bouncy, blow-dry effect.
