After 23 or 28 days, hamsters were challenged intranasally with 2 × 10 5 PFU of SARS-CoV-2. Similarly, a slightly different dose and schedule used for vaccination resulted in all vaccinated hamsters in, respectively, a 6 log 10-transformed (IQR of 4.6–6.6) and 5.7 log 10-transformed (IQR of 5.7–6.6) reduction of viral RNA and infectious virus titres as compared to sham (Extended Data Fig. 4f–i).
