About this deal

Using water drawn from the River Bush over beds of basalt rock, the 400-year-old distillery is the home of a craft passed through the generations. The ‘double’ in Boatyard Double Gin refers to our distillation process and a purist’s approach of placing juniper at both the start and end of the process.

Boatyard Double Gin

Steeped in history and located just a two-mile drive from Ireland’s rugged North Atlantic coast, The Old Bushmills Distillery is listed as the oldest licensed whiskey distillery in the world. Some gins have long lists of botanicals, many of which you’ll often struggle to identify in the glass. As wild and rugged as the name would suggest, Wild Atlantic Distillery is at Aghyaran in County Tyrone, around a 50-minute drive from the 1,600-mile-long coastal road known as the Wild Atlantic Way. Ever since the great gin renaissance of the 2010s, new brands have launched on what feels like a daily basis.Even if you haven’t the faintest what finger lime, lemon myrtle or mountain pepper berry normally taste (or look) like, you can’t help but feel transported somewhere tropical by the intense aromas of this crafted spirit.

Or – if you’ve got a mega bank balance to splash on spirits – Cambridge Distillery’s elegant three seasons. Distilled with fresh quince, Ramsbury smells like an orchard in autumn; think generous fruit sweetness, tempered with a crisp, citric brightness. We take a look at its original expression, the award-winning Boatyard Double Gin, and find out more about the man behind it. They also hold virtual cocktail evenings, supper clubs and gin and jazz nights, while the tour covers the origins and history of gin and includes the chance to taste the entire range.

While we haven’t gone so far as to include coloured gins in this list, we did feel it was important to include something for everyone. The guided 90-minute tour at the Boatyard Distillery includes a behind-the-scenes look at everything from distilling to labelling, with the history and origins of the distillery, plus the chance to label a 70cl bottle of Boatyard Double Gin. Killowen is the only distillery in Northern Ireland that uses flame-fed whiskey stills — an old-fashioned process of heating whiskey directly over fire (instead of steam) for caramelisation and a fuller-bodied spirit.
