About this deal

This toy is one of a series of authentically detailed modular sets that kids can build, combine and rearrange to create their own Hogwarts™ Castle model. The LEGO® Harry Potter™ Hogwarts™ Chamber of Secrets (76389) playset is an impressive, collectible toy that is ideal for explorative play and display. So I don't think an "accurate" version of Hogwarts will ever be possible, unless based only on the book, which itself doesn't describe everything. I do like the "living" interpretation that they push in the book, with things making sense and yet moving as well. And so your different builds are as good as they'd be, in my opinion." The trans-clear beams used to hoist the minifigures into the air are a peculiar one, though – they’re too stiff to provide dynamic display options, with only one axis of articulation, and kids playing with the set are sure to abandon them anyway, in favour of just flying the minifigures around by hand. Still, grabbing three in a single set is nothing to sniff at, given their potential for being repurposed in other displays. LEGO® Harry Potter™ toys contain favorite characters, amazing creatures and familiar locations from the popular movies. They’re an ideal gift for any child wanting to be part of the movie magic.

Splitting these four models into their constituent sections provides an exceptional collection of different components. These structures are designed primarily around 8x8 and 8x16 modules, ensuring excellent consistency between them. Certain outliers are provided though, including the entrance to the Chamber of Secrets and another from 76395 Hogwarts: First Flying Lesson which are both assembled on 4x10 plates. I like that this new system is still cross compatible with the 2018 system, meaning its easy to create a super Hogwarts display with them both if you don't mind the roof color clash (or willing to swap colors with your own parts). Kids use 3 long, transparent levers to play out the famous flying-lesson scene and enjoy endless other airborne adventures, including Quidditch™ practice. While 76386 Hogwarts: Polyjuice Potion Mistake, 76387 Hogwarts: Fluffy Encounter and 76389 Hogwarts Chamber of Secrets fashion a new modular formula for this year’s Hogwarts sets, transforming the wizarding school into a streamlined, boxy format that apes the aesthetics of the original 2001 wave, 76395 Hogwarts: First Flying Lesson instead aligns itself with the modern design sensibilities of 75954 Hogwarts Great Hall and 75969 Hogwarts Astronomy Tower.

This magical, modular system lets kids aged 9 and up continue adding rooms to create an entire Hogwarts™ Castle. LEGO has developed numerous Hogwarts Castle designs since 2001, generally comprising several connected structures. This twentieth anniversary selection encompasses four such models. Having attempted numerous configurations, I think this is my favourite. Keeping those interior spaces together was particularly significant for my display and this arrangement satisfies that need, while also looking marvellous when viewed from the exterior. In fact, I was surprised by the importance of 76395 Hogwarts: First Flying Lesson which allows the separation of various modules, when necessary.

The set measures over 15.5 in. (40 cm) high, 15.5 in. (40 cm) wide and 4 in. (11 cm) deep and combines easily with other LEGO® Harry Potter™ sets for extra fun. It's just weird to change design style mid-way, as they weren't done with movies 6+7. Plus some of the sets are using the 2018 design style, such as 76388: Hogsmeade Village Visit. LEGO® building kits satisfy rigorous industry quality standards to ensure they are consistent, compatible and connect and pull apart perfectly every time – it’s been that way since 1958. Bearing in mind that price tag, however, the minifigure line-up is really where 76395 Hogwarts: First Flying Lesson falls short. All three of its regular characters make sense for the scene, and particularly with a view to the original 2002 model this set is based on, but four minifigures total feels like too few next to both the cheaper 76386 Hogwarts: Polyjuice Potion Mistake and last year’s 75967 Forbidden Forest: Umbridge’s Encounter.

LEGO® building kits fulfill strict industry quality standards to ensure they are consistent, compatible and connect and pull apart perfectly every time – and it’s been that way since 1958. Very rarely will an author actually plan out the entire interior of a set piece, and over a series of books things inevitably change to accommodate new plot elements. This results in cases where incompatibilities slip in unnoticed. Hogwarts is a rare case where you can handwave it away by simply saying the location changed between books. It supports lazy writing, but it’s hard to argue against.

Details

Includes Neville Longbottom™, Draco Malfoy™ and Madam Hooch minifigures, and 5 buildable, rearrangeable modules, including a Quidditch™ trophy room and equipment storage room. LEGO® Harry Potter™ toys contain favourite characters, amazing creatures and familiar locations from the popular movies. They’re an ideal gift for any child wanting to be part of the movie magic. The idea is kids (ya know, the target audience) would be aging out of the 2018 sets by now so they need new versions to capture the new kids in the target range. Just like why they have tons of repeat Star Wars sets. It sells well because new kids are getting into the hobby.]] Young witches and wizards aged 7 and up with a passion for Harry Potter™ will be captivated by this magical airborne playset, which features famous characters and locations from the movies. While it doesn’t present the best value in this summer’s LEGO Harry Potter range, 76395 Hogwarts: First Flying Lesson stands out as the only model that’s immediately compatible with the wider Hogwarts display we’ve all been building up for the past few years. And for that reason alone – plus Madame Hooch, and if you’re collecting the golden minifigures, Professor Quirrell – you probably won’t want to skip this, even if you do hold out for a discount.

That 2019 set included two unique minifigures and two brand new centaurs, and while Madame Hooch is a marked improvement over the version that came in 2018’s 5005254 Harry Potter Minifigure Collection, Neville and Malfoy aren’t anything to get too excited about. An extra student would have rounded things out nicely (as long as it wasn’t Harry). OK, if it was announced as a soft reboot then I shouldn't expect more of the older ones. Oh well, t's big enough of a display as it is now :) I'll never understand the appeal of this system and why it replaced the 2018 modular system. Hogwarts should be three-dimensional, not some straight wall with a repetitive exterior and bland interior due to the limited size of each section. If LEGO continue this modular system I'm afraid I won't be onboard." There was an interview with Marcos mentioning the switch to sand green roofing. And they mentioned not only anniversary year, but also a soft reboot. So I would expect next years castle sections to resemble these. The large, modular LEGO® Harry Potter™ Hogwarts™ Chamber of Secrets (76389) playset is a versatile, stand-out toy that’ll enchant any fan of the Harry Potter movies. As this is one of the few Hogwarts sets that depicts a scene in the school grounds, a little greenery around the base also wouldn’t have gone amiss. Otherwise, though, this is a solid mini expansion into the wider Hogwarts display – whichever one you’re building up – that won’t break the bank. — Characters — Instruction manuals for these sets recommend this arrangement, comprising 76386 Hogwarts: Polyjuice Potion Mistake, 76387 Hogwarts: Fluffy Encounter and 76389 Hogwarts Chamber of Secrets. That design assures absolute consistency between differing levels, including Moaning Myrtle's bathroom above the Chamber of Secrets. However, positioning that bathroom with the third floor corridor appears comparatively bland from the outside. Their design enables multiple arrangements and several such configurations are discussed during this article. LEGO® building kits fulfil strict industry quality standards to ensure they are consistent, compatible and connect and pull apart perfectly every time – and it’s been that way since 1958.
