Now that I've thoroughly confused old and young alike, here's the meat and bones of why I think you should see this movie. The good include films like 'Over The Edge'(1978),which gave a young Matt Dillon his start in films, 'Kids',which although a difficult film to watch,was worth squirming over just to see what young folk have become (for the above stated reasons). However, in this particular film, even her tremendously powerful performance pales in comparison with Holly Hunter's Oscar-nominated supporting role as Tracy's mother, and by Nikki Reed, who, in her first ever acting role, is nothing short of stunning. However, if the film got into the Sundance Film Festival and they liked the end result, they agreed to purchase it for distribution.

Evie Zamora (Nikki Reed) is the queen bee, and after she teases Tracy about her clothes, Tracy steals a wallet to impress her and they quickly become best friends. That was a real turning point for me, being next to Mandy Moore in this magazine and realizing, ‘Oh my gosh, we made a real movie,’” offers Reed. The script is convincing, frightening and moving and is greatly helped by three great performances from Reed, Wood and Hunter. Together, they dive headfirst into a self-destructive cycle of sex, drugs, and petty crime in pursuit of autonomy, leaving Tracy’s mother, Melanie (an excellent Holly Hunter), blindsided by her daughter’s abrupt change in character. She does all this completely uncertain of whether she wants to, and mostly because she's following Evie's lead. Christina begs the police to allow her to speak to her daughter, and persuades Ivy to reveal the shocking truth behind her disappearance.

The airy working space is home to small shrines of the movies Hardwicke’s directed over the last two decades. Whoever it is who decides who gets the Oscars - wake up and realise that you need to award these to the performances, not the actors who wear the nicer dresses! Thirteen starts with an interesting premise but unfortunately the story contains no plot twists or interesting turns. After Evie's stay extends over two weeks, Melanie unsuccessfully attempts to contact Brooke, and then visits Brooke's home with Evie and Tracy. While walking home from school, Brady offers Tracy a ride and takes her home, where Melanie, Evie, and Brooke are sitting quietly in the living room waiting for her.Hardwicke was blown away by Wood’s ability to turn on her emotions to keep up with the production’s frantic pace. Over the years, she’s pitched a TV show based on Thirteen that would explore the lives of 13-year-olds in different cultural contexts, which she still hopes to make someday. Michael Balderston is a DC-based entertainment and assistant managing editor for What to Watch, who has previously written about the TV and movies with TV Technology, Awards Circuit and regional publications. Mason is shocked when he bumps into Tracy wearing sexualized clothing, including thong underwear, but Tracy dismisses his concerns. It's an unpleasant watch, but the provocation it causes is interesting, I've written this review faster than usual!

The last scene shows a dream sequence of Tracy spinning alone and screaming on a park merry-go-round during the daytime. After the scene where Evie and Tracy make out with Luke, the saturation slowly becomes less and less until the end of the film, especially after Evie is told that she can't live with Tracy anymore and Tracy is abandoned by the popular group. As Tracy becomes more and more like Evie, engaging in similar bad behavior, her permissive mother totally loses control over her. She tearfully pleads with Melanie to let go, but Melanie persists and the two fall asleep together on Tracy's bed.Tracy is a normal thirteen-year-old girl, dressed in bright pastels, bedroom full of soft toys and with giggly thoughts of boys. It's not as easy as it sounds when Evie peer pressures Tracy into doing things such as stealing, drugs, piercings, and sex-- far from the Tracy everybody seems to know. Posters of most of her projects as a director, including Lords of Dogtown starring the late Ledger, adorn the walls. Hardwicke admits that because they were running low on funds, the footage in the film captured on Hollywood Boulevard and when Wood takes the bus early on were shot without permits. Wood takes us from a child to womanhood and never hits a duff note in her portrayal of a girl just trying to fit in.

Because Wood and Reed were minors, their time on set was limited, and 21 days of shooting turned into the equivalent of 18 days. The police find a passport photo of Ivy and hair on the kidnapper's bed, from which they deduce that she has lied about not being let out of the cellar. Principal photography took place on location [4] in Los Angeles, with Melrose Avenue, Hollywood Boulevard, and Venice Beach serving as filming locations. This film should be shown in high schools or a parent should watch it with their child and then have a talk with them afterwards.
