About this deal

I thought this would make for very interesting reading as there are comparatively few first person writings on this topic from the perspective of a German tanker. He was fortunate to have served in the best of these tanks, which were usually superior to those he faced in combat. Hans Schmid: " Steuermann durch Krieg und Frieden" The author, a former Obersteuermann (helmsman) writes about his career on German warships and on U-boats. he was one of the three men who had apparently survived the sinking of U-241.

Hastings, Max (2006) [1985]. Overlord: D-Day and the Battle for Normandy. Vintage Books USA; Reprint edition. ISBN 0-307-27571-X.His description of daily life in a tank unit is very interesting and quite different then memoirs I have read. The food they ate and the alcohol they drank. The problems that tank unit you would not think of. Siegfried Knappe: " Soldat: Reflections of a German Soldier, 1936-1949". Knappe served as a Wehrmacht officer in the artillery during the invasions of Czechoslovakia, France and the Soviet Union and as a staff officer during the Italian campaign and the defense of Berlin, where he was captured and spent four years as a Russian POW.

In the first months after the invasion of Russia, the author's regiment - comprising mostly Panzer IIIs - participated in a succession of brief engagements with Russian troops, characterised by continuous movement deeper into enemy territory. After a front-line accident, von Rosen was returned to Germany and following his recovery he spent some time as an instructor, before entering officer training from which he graduated in June 1942. von Rosen was encouraged to join heavy tank Panzer Abteilung (PzAbt) 503, which was being fitted with the new Tiger tank. In late 1942, PzAbt 503 was transferred to the Ukraine to support the break-out of the doomed Sixth Army from Stalingrad. A series of wide-ranging operations on the Russian steppe could not change the inevitable fall of Stalingrad in January 1943, which shook the soldiers' faith:Parts of Panzer Commander are quite well done. The variety of vehicles is excellent, with more than 20 driveable tanks from Germany, Russia, the United States, and Britain and 28 support vehicles. The terrain modeling is the best of the current crop of tank sims. Peter-Erich Cremer: " U-333. The Story of a U-Boat Ace". This well-written first-person narrative is about the career of Kptlt. Cremer of U-333 from the first day of World War II until the last. Karl Dönitz: " 40 Fragen an Karl Dönitz". An interview conducted by French journalists, questioning the Admiral about the U-boat war. Panzer Ace is the WWII memoir of a young man of 18 who joined a Panzer regiment in 1940, starting at the bottom, then when his talent for organisation and leadership shone through, he was promoted. By the war's end he was an Oberleutnant and company commander. His secret journals have been found 80 years later and are to be turned into a documentary by History Hit, the streaming network set up by historian Dan Snow.
