When I inboxed this, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the stand is a very heavy and sturdy metal. The Mac mini fits inside it snugly, such that it takes a good amount of upward force to pull the Mac mini from the stand. However, if you are low on desk space, you can either mount it on the wall or the underside of your desk. Naturally, this will save you space. However, you will have to take cable management into account.
