About this deal

It's perfection, every word, every moment. A masterpiece . . . I had my mind blown apart. After I finished it I sat with my mouth hanging open in awe. One of the best books I've ever read Lisa Jewell

Just Another Missing Person By Five Reasons Not To Read Just Another Missing Person By

My mind is truly and utterly blown (in the best possible way) after closing the cover of Just Another Missing Person. From the winding, deeply intricate plot to the positively earth-shattering, gigantic twists, this novel wholly lived up to Wrong Place Wrong Time, in my opinion. And, if you know, you know, but that’s really saying something. Amazing!!! I could not stop listening. I love it when a book is that good. I was working while listening and my kindle battery almost died ( audible for kindle ) I couldn’t believe it! I had been listening for 5 hours straight!! Because the criminal at the heart of the disappearance has something she never expected. His weapon isn’t a gun, or a knife: it’s a secret. And her family’s safety depends on one thing: Julia must NOT find out what happened to Olivia. Short synopsis: Julia, a local detective, is leading a new case involving a missing woman. However, when the lines between her personal and work life begin to crosss, what will she do to protect her family? This clever and endlessly surprising thriller is laced with a clever look at family and motherhood, and cements Gillian McAllister as a major talent in the world of suspense and a master of creating ethical dilemmas that show just how murky the distinction between right and wrong can be.My only minor critique-the characters inner thoughts were often repeated three times in a row. It would make more sense if that were a personality quirk of one character-but they definitely would not all share that trait! As the synopsis indicates, there’s someone who doesn’t want Olivia found, and the reason was fascinating. I really enjoyed the twist in this one, which was inventive and also made complete sense.

Just Another Missing Person by Gillian McAllister | Waterstones

year-old Olivia is missing. One day and counting. Last seen on CCTV. Julia, the detective is heading the investigation. She thinks she knows how this will go – but…Just Another Missing Person" is another riveting thriller that continues her trend of puzzling, enigmatic, and complex writing. You feel like a detective not only solving the mysteries she throws your way but also becoming attached to the three different narrations: Julia, a workaholic, honest police officer; Lewis, a caring father devoted to finding his missing daughter; and Emma, a single mom who would do anything to protect her son, even as she suspects his behavior. Dually, within the story, banking so hard to the left that I drove off a cliff, the character identities piled up into a mess. And again, I love identities within identities. So, for me to complain about characters having a multitude of identities and motives (known and unknown)? There is a serious problem. I was with the story for the first half, and then I just… lost. Completely lost. I even tried relistening to chapters, but nope. I couldn’t tell why the reveals mattered or connected (most of them, anyway). Part of me thinks there was just too much story in this story. Gillian McAllister just tried too hard. While the mystery is quite mysterious, there's a significant focus on the characters as well. Although Julia is the MC, I found her character the weakest. The whole situation with her family was quite repetitive and I'm just never on board with a man who 20+ years DEEEEP into your marriage still has issues with your job and then blames you when he acts a fool. Either get on board or get tf outta the way is all I have to say. I thought Lewis' character was well-done. His all-consuming grief was demonstrated in a unique way and his motives are understandable. DCI Julia Day is investigating the mystery surrounding missing person Olivia who goes down an alley and never comes out - there are lots of questions surrounding her disappearance. An unsolved missing person case from a year prior also plagues DCI Day's mind.
