About this deal

The Dyson Supersonic has dramatically reduced my hair drying time and turned my much loathed chore into my favourite I previously reviewed the Dyson Airwrap and rated it better than the cheaper Shark FlexStyle alternative, praising it for its ease of use, speed and results. Again, Dyson knows how to make a good-looking tool, as it really looks the part. It’s lightweight, and has a seamless and well thought out design that makes switching from hot to cool a breeze. Instead of a lengthy barrel and a clunky system of rotors, filters and vents, Dyson has shrunk the V9 motor in the Supersonic down to slightly smaller than a quarter or a 10p coin, and placed it at the bottom of the handle with a rubber mount. This sleek, thin handle extends to a circular ring, with two buttons on the shaft – the power, and cold shot buttons – and two on the rear of the ring; one that controls its three air speeds, another for selecting one of its three temperature settings.

What’s more is that there’s no need to faff around swapping barrels for different curl directions, like you do with the Shark. There’s a little toggle on the top of the barrel that will change the direction of the airflow, so you only need to use one. All this means you won’t have to deal with that metallic burning smell that you sometimes get when you use other hair dryers for a long period of time. And you also won’t have to deal with the worrying smell of burning hair, as the microprocessor keeps the airflow temperature stable and under 302 degree F / 150 degree C no matter what. The Dyson Supersonic hair dryer comes with magnetic styling attachments for easy fitting and rotation during styling, including a Flyaway attachment for smoothing, the Dyson Styling concentrator, diffuser, gentle air attachment and wide tooth comb. This was an improvement on what we had before, but it resulted in a bulky device with most of its weight in the top rear of the device. This isn’t exactly ideal for something you hold above your head; we’ve experienced more than one thump to the head thanks to a weary arm. Launched in 2020, they’re the first straightener that uses patented flexing plates that help shape to gather the hair and deliver enhanced styling with half the damage compared to leading competitors.

The Corrale straightener is also suitable for all hair types and features Dyson’s Intelligent Heat Control for precise temperature control. What’s more is that they have a safety feature that switches them off after 10 minutes of inactivity for added peace of mind. What sets the device apart from competitors like Sharkis that it has a small, powerful Dyson V9 digital motor, which is on average six times faster than other hair dryer motors. Combined with Air Multiplier technology, it produces a high-pressure, high-velocity jet of controlled air, for fast drying and precision styling. Most people wash their hair at least a couple of times a week, while others do so every day - I’m an every-other-day kind of hair washer, and with a busy lifestyle, the last thing I ever want to be doing is spending an hour making sure my ends are dry. So, not to be dramatic but the Supersonic changed my life.

Dyson has a history of throwing out the rulebook when it comes to designing products – ditching the bag in its vacuums; replacing blades with vents in its fans – so it’s no surprise its Supersonic doesn’t look like a traditional hair dryer. I never used to curl my hair because it’s so long, it would take forever and by the time I’d finished one side the other would drop. The Airwrap takes considerably less time than a wand or curling iron, creating salon-worthy curls in minutes rather than hours. The Dyson Corrale is the product of the three that I’ve used the least, in part, because it’s the latest addition to my arsenal of beauty tools, but also because my hair is naturally quite straight anyway, and I only really straighten my hair if I’m going ‘out out’.While I do love the Airwrap, I do find that my curls don’t hold as well as I’d like, though this is more down to the fact I need to do some more research on the best products to use alongside it, rather than the device itself. But it does mean that I don’t find myself reaching for it as often as I would like, that said, it is still my favourite styler of its kind.
