About this deal

Measuring a seat tube diameter is often necessary before purchasing, or changing the seatpost. How should one do that? Three methods will be explained here, but one can always be creative. šŸ™‚ You want a seatpost long enough for your height needs on your bike. A seatpost thatā€™s too short canā€™t canā€™t be made longer. A seatpost thatā€™s too long, on the other hand, can be cut to be made shorter. Suspension or Damping Painting, or chrome plating could also be done ā€“ just take it into account when machining to not have the new seatpost too narrow, or too wide.

The updated Brand-X Ascend boasts a larger shaft diameter (reducing flex), an additional DU bushing and upgraded internals. Andy Lloyd / Immediate Media It still has the German brandā€™s auto-refresh mechanism, to ā€˜bleedā€™ itself and prevent sponginess, along with its super-slim collar.

Every brand seems to have its own take on the saddle clamp design, which usually includes a bolt at the front of the head and another at the rear, although some have just one bolt. While the vast majority of standard seatposts are identical in form and function ā€“ being hollow aluminium or carbon tubes upon which the saddle is clamped ā€“ there are a few essential differences to know about when choosing or replacing a post.

Some bikes even go as narrow as 25.4mm, Cannondale being a case in point. A skinnier post will provide a bit more flex, and therefore a slightly more comfortable ride, while a fatter one will be more robust and add stiffness for additional power transfer. Overall, the Bontrager Line Elite is hard to fault, performing without issue in testing and proving easy to install. Longer-travel posts do exist, from 170mm up to 210mm, but they can be difficult to use for shorter riders or on certain bike frames. That said, longer-travel posts are becoming more and more common as technology improves and bike manufacturers design frames with shorter seat tubes. Upgrading the seatpost on your road bike is a great way to lose weight and potentially add some comfort too, If you donā€™t want to spend too much cash on a seat post, there are plenty of great aluminium options out

The Twin Link clamp uses two bolts with expanding wedges to adjust saddle angle and is easily accessible from the sides below the rails. Part of the Enve Road range with the Enve Road bar and stem, it's unsurprisingly top-level componentry with a top-level price to boot. Max length: 308.6mm (100mm travel), 363.5mm (125mm travel), 418.3mm (150mm), 475.1mm (175mm travel), 530.7mm (200mm travel) The other thing to consider is whether you have a Di2 battery or not. FSA, for example, offer a number of

At 300mm in length, the Enve seatpost is available in 0mm, and 25mm-offset versions. While quite a few carbon posts have a metal clamp head bonded on the top, the Enve post is carbon through and through. The ā€˜DropLocā€™ cable shuttle needs to be set up exactly right, but having the cable anchored at the lever end makes it easier, and once youā€™ve got it sorted the whole mechanism can be unscrewed for easy removal/refitting.hand market (and local bike shops) is where Iā€™d look. With a wallet in one hand, and accurate & precise callipers in the other. šŸ™‚ If the number is the same or less, youā€™re in business. If the dropper postā€™s length is longer, youā€™ll have to use another option. Fixed or infinite travel adjustment?

cables, which need to be adjusted occasionally because they stretch. The Reverb also uses a remote lever Rear lights can be a bit of an issue when it comes to an aero post, although many brands now offer adaptors that allow for the shape. All seatposts clamp to the saddle in their own unique way, and have different methods of allowing the saddle to point slightly down, slightly up or remain flat. Most dropper posts enable you to lower your saddle by between 125mm and 170mm, while outliers start at 100mm and go as high as 210mm. while going a bit too wide would call for some more grinding ā€“ but itā€™s probably a safer way to go (ā€œmeasure three times, cut onceā€ is a local saying). and 31.6mm are the most common seatpost diameters, with 34.9mm also emerging as a popular size for mountain bikes. 27.2mm seatpost Whether you choose the ā€˜universalā€™ remote or the sweetly-machined shifter-style ā€˜Digitā€™ unit seen here, the action is very smooth. Return speed can be altered and stop-point modulation is excellent. When it comes to cancelling vibrations, there are several steps brands take to aid this in frame construction: using thin seatstays; placing the seatpost clamp lower down so that more seatpost is exposed (allowing for more flex); and using a narrower seatpost A carbon seatpost is effectively an additional step; a cherry on top.
